Clam Antivirus is a powerful anti-virus scanner for Unix. It supports AMaViS, compressed files, uses the virus database from OpenAntivirus.org, and includes a program for auto-updating. The scanner is multithreaded, written in C, and POSIX compliant.

GNU GRUB is a Multiboot loader. It was derived from GRUB. It is an attempt to produce a bootloader for IBM PC-compatible machines that has both the capability to be friendly to beginning or otherwise non-technically interested users and the flexibility to help experts in diverse environments. It is compatible with FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD and Linux. It supports Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP and OS/2 via chain-loaders. It has a menu interface and a command-line interface.

hdparm is a Linux shell utility for viewing and manipulating various IDE drive and driver parameters. Most drives can benefit from improved performance using a command similar to "hdparm -qm8 -qu1 -qc1 -qW1 -qd1 /dev/hda"

hdup is used to back up a filesystem. Features include encryption of the archive (via mcrypt), compression of the archive (bzip/gzip/none), the ability to transfer the archive to a remote host (via scp), and no obscure archive format (it is a normal compressed tar file).

Hyperactive Directory Administrator (HAD Administrator) is a graphical tool for administering Users, Groups, Hosts, and other objects in an LDAP directory. It differs from other tools available such as GQ in that it is not designed to be a general purpose directory editor and is only intended for use in an LDAP environment (it doesn't do anything with NIS or local files). It is roughly modelled after the Microsoft Active Directory Users and Computers tool.

Taper is a tape backup and restore program that provides a friendly user interface to allow backing/restoring files to a tape drive. Alternatively, files can be backed up to hard disk files. Selecting files for backup and restore is very similar to the Midnight Commander interface and allows easy traversal of directories. Recursively selected directories are supported. Incremental backup and automatic most recent restore are defaults settings. SCSI, ftape, zftape, and removable drives are supported.

translucency is a Linux kernel module that virtually merges two directories, making it possible to overwrite files on read-only media and compile projects (such as the Linux kernel) with different options without copying sources each time. No user-space tools have to be changed. The process is also known as inheriting (ifs), stacking, translucency (tfs), loopback (lofs), and overlay (ovlfs).
