Blender is the open source software for 3D modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, interactive creation and playback. It is available for all major operating systems under the GNU General Public License. Here you'll find a statically linked binary that should work on most Linux distros.

gkII - Mandelbrot Munger is yet another Mandelbrot fractal image generator. But, instead of just being plain happy with the mandelbrot calculations it does some more calculations developed with the artistic eye in mind. Apparently, these calculations act like a mask, revealing, concealing, and augementing the original M-Set.

Inkscape is an Open Source vector graphics editor, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDraw, or Xara X using the W3C standard Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format. Supported SVG features include shapes, paths, text, markers, clones, alpha blending, transforms, gradients, patterns, and grouping. Inkscape also supports Creative Commons meta-data, node editing, layers, complex path operations, bitmap tracing, text-on-path, flowed text, direct XML editing, and more. It imports formats such as JPEG, PNG, TIFF, and others and exports PNG as well as multiple vector-based formats. To install, run the .package file included here (you may need to make it executable via your file manager first).
