Althea
Althea is an IMAP email client for X that uses the GTK widget set. It was built with the IMAP protocol in mind in order to avoid many of the pitfalls experienced by POP clients that added IMAP support. Althea allows easy access to a nearly unlimited number of servers, and has a very small memory footprint. As of version 0.5.0 Althea also supports IMAP over SSL.

Gnometoaster is a full CD creation suite for X11 and GNOME. It can be used to copy and create data, audio, and mixed mode CDs on the fly or with precaching in both TAO and DAO mode. Data tracks can easily be created with the built-in file manager. GNOME drag-and-drop is supported throughout the program. Gnometoaster can also write MP3 files on the fly, is fully multisession capable, and can be used to encode all sorts of filetypes directly from audio audio tracks on a CD.

KAlarm
KAlarm lets you configure alarms and/or reminder messages to be displayed at scheduled times, with options for the message font and colour, whether to beep when the message is displayed, and whether to cancel the message if it can't be displayed on time (for example, if you are not logged in at the specified time). Alarms can be configured using the graphical user interface, the command line, and/or DCOP interface (for interaction with other KDE programs). Note that this application is unrelated to KAlarm for KDE1.

NewVideoRecorder is a high quality video capture toolkit for Linux. It includes deep buffering of audio and video to reduce frame dropping, a smooth dropping algorithm to keep the video smooth if dropping is required, and dynamic stretching of the audio stream to exactly match the video stream. It can use v4l1 and v4l2 devices as video sources, and OSS devices as an audio source. It can produce QuickTime, AVI, NuppelVideo 0.4 files, and MPEG-1 files.

NewsStar
Newsstar fetches news and posts it to a local news server, usually INN. What makes newsstar special is that it can make multiple simultaneous connections, not only to one server, but to several, supporting up to 10 "threads". Before fetching each article, it checks that it hasn't already been downloaded by another thread or in a previous session. It can also "pipeline" article requests to make better use of available bandwidth.

RIP!
Recovery Is Possible (RIP) is a floppy boot/rescue/backup system. It has support for a lot of filesystem types (reiserfs, ext2/3, XFS, JFS, UFS, MS DOS, umsdos, and vfat) and contains a bunch of utilities for system recovery. It might also be possible to install and boot it from a LS-120 floppy drive. It has been designed for non-networked stand-alone home PC hard drive booting and rescue. There's also a bootable CDROM version available at the site. Only the cd version has XFS and JFS filesystem support.

Sylpheed is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client. Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. It also has many features such as multiple accounts, POP3/APOP support, thread display, and multipart MIME. One of Sylpheed's future goals is to be fully internationalized. The messages are managed in the MH format, so you'll be able to use it together with another mailer that uses the MH format.

Xrmap
Xrmap is a program running under X that can interactively display portions of the Earth, using the huge CIA world vector map. It is based on an earlier console utility 'rmap'. It features political boundaries, major and minor rivers, glaciers, lakes, canals, etc. The map remains accurate under a very large zoom factor, which can possibly exceed 100. Spherical, rectangular, Mercator and Miller projections are implemented, and all features can be interactively set from the GUI.

kArchiveur
KArchiver makes it easy to work with many compressed file formats (.tar., .gz, .bz2, .lha, .rar and .zip). You can view and work with the contents of the archived files, add or remove files and convert between compression formats. KArchiveur can be used as a Konqueror plugin for viewing and extracting archives without leaving Konqueror. It also has wizards that will help you step by step to compile and install software or apply a patch. KArchiver also has an archive browser, which displays all archives in the current directory, and a search tool, which searches a directory and its children for archives.
