cats2procmailrc is a filter to generate a .procmailrc file from a much terser file consisting of single-line rules. These suffice to do the most common mail filing, making maintenance of a procmailrc very easy for someone with more than a few filing rules. Each rule basically names the folder, an optional subject tag, and the pattern.

Gotmail is a utility to non-interactively download email from a Hotmail account. It can download messages from all folders, messages from certain folders, or new messages only. There are options to delete downloaded messages or mark them as read. Gotmail can forward messages to other email addresses or save them as local mbox-style mailboxes.

GnuPG (the GNU Privacy Guard) is GNU's tool for secure communication and data storage. It can be used to encrypt data and to create digital signatures. It includes an advanced key management facility and is compliant with the proposed OpenPGP Internet standard as described in RFC2440. As such, it is meant to be compatible with PGP from NAI, Inc. Because it does not use any patented algorithms, it can be used without any restrictions.

jwhois is an Internet Whois client that contains an extensible configuration file, which defines its operation. The client supports queries to foreign hosts, either through the RFC 954 - NICNAME/WHOIS protocol, the RFC 2167 - Referral Whois 1.5 protocol, or HTTP using an external browser. Upon execution, it searches through its configuration to find the most specific whois server to query. Depending upon the reply from that whois server, it can assume the query was successfull and display the result to the user, or optionally redirect the query to another server to find more specific information.

Sylpheed is a GTK+ based, lightweight, and fast email client. Almost all commands are accessible with the keyboard. It also has many features such as multiple accounts, POP3/APOP support, thread display, and multipart MIME. One of Sylpheed's future goals is to be fully internationalized. The messages are managed in the MH format, so you'll be able to use it together with another mailer that uses the MH format.
