Mjpeg tools is a suite of programs which support video capture, basic editting, playback, and compression to MPEG-1/2 of MJPEG video. The capture software allows MJPEG video streams in AVI, Quicktime, and movtar format to be produced using the Iomega Buz, Miro DC10+, Matrox Marvel, and similar hardware. The editing and playback tools are hardware independent, with support for hardware accelerated playback if present. The MPEG compresion tools are based on MPEG Software Simulation Group's reference encoder with enhancements to provide far faster compression and significant quality improvments.

NewVideoRecorder is a high quality video capture toolkit for Linux. It includes deep buffering of audio and video to reduce frame dropping, a smooth dropping algorithm to keep the video smooth if dropping is required, and dynamic stretching of the audio stream to exactly match the video stream. It can use v4l1 and v4l2 devices as video sources, and OSS devices as an audio source. It can produce QuickTime, AVI, NuppelVideo 0.52 files, MPEG-1 files, and all files supported by ffmpeg (through the ffmpeg library). It also includes tools and utilities for high quality video streaming (multicast and unicast).

SImg is a software for astronomical image processing. It contains a tool for visualization of highly dynamic images. The package consists of a library and applications which use it. Some of the features are deconvolution (various methods), Video4Linux support, PSF computation, approximation by linear combination of images and polynoms, various color transforms, automatic shifting of image sets (for addition and color composition), and more.
