When installing, jEdit reports it can't write 'something' 'somewhere'

This appears because you don't have write privileges to the place on your computer that jEdit wants to write. The easiest solution is to be logged in as 'Administrator' when you install this program.

When I am showing another language then English, I get very funny characters appearing.

This is because you don't have proper UNICODE fonts installed on your computer or you don't have the proper fonts chosen just for jEdit. Go to the 'Utilities->global options' menu in jEdit and check all the options. There are several places you can choose a font. Always choose one that you know is a UNICODE font. One last thing, the title bars of screens are controlled by the operating system so if that is not showing properly unicode characters, then you must play with your operating system. But, many Microsoft Windows operating systems will only show proper (for example) chineese characters in title bars in chineese versions of windows. So don't waste too much time on getting the title bars right. But everything else can work easily.

I want to translate Lazy8Ledger into another language. What do I do?

1. There are two parts to the translation process. One is the texts that appear on the reports, menus, dialogs, forms etc and the other is the documentation. Perhaps you only want to translate the texts but not the documentation. This is quite common because to translate the texts takes about 2 hours of hard work but to change the documentation takes many days. Anyway, the process for both is as follows:

2. To translate the texts that appear on the reports, menus, dialogs and forms, go to the menu Advanced->language. Press the help button if help is not already showing. Read the documentation. If you still don't understand how it is done, then please email me. I am anxious to get this program in many languages. A little tip about using this 'language' form: Do a little at a time, save your results, restart Lazy8Ledger, and see if you can see your translations appearing properly. This is important to make sure you are using the tool properly so that an hours work doesn't get wasted. In order for your language to show up at all in Lazy8Ledger, you must choose that language as the default language after you have 'saved' the new language the first time. Then, each time you translate something and will show it then you must first choose another language and then your own language in the options. Another little tip: If you click on the column headers, that column will be sorted. It can help you to find what you are looking for. When you are finished, the resulting file will be at your home directory in a subdirectory called .jedit/Lazy8Ledger/lang and the file is 'xx'.bin where 'xx' is the two digit country code for your country. Examples are en.bin for English and sv.bin for Swedish. PLEASE EMAIL ME YOUR LANGUAGE FILE so others can benefit from your hard work. Finding your home directory in Windows is difficult and it can be almost anywhere but I can give you a hint. Your home directory is one directory below your "my documents" as well as one directory below your "desktop"

3. To translate the documentation. This is a little more difficult. You must get a good HTML editor and learn how to use it. Then you must contact me by email so I can create a documentation translation package for you. This translation package is unique for each language so that is why I can't have anything done in advance.
