The Recommended install is intended for users who prefer to let the installer make most of the decisions.

An Expert installation offers many advanced features that require a good knowledge of Linux to make the appropriate choices.

This window also contains Install or Upgrade buttons to specify if this will be a new installation, or an upgrade of an earlier Mandrake Linux system.

A new feature in Mandrake Linux 8.2 is called Upgrade packages only. This is a simplified way to upgrade a system that keeps the system's configuration settings unchanged (such as video settings, network, etc.).
