The most popular types of ADSL connections use PPPOE (point-to-point protocol over ethernet) which is the default selection seen here.

If your account doesn't use pppoe, choose one of the other options.

Note: if your DSL connection uses a static IP address, use "LAN connection" from the main networking window.
