FiveInOne is a modest Windows 3.0 set of utilities.
It gives you 5 options :
1) 5in1 could be substitued to Progman.exe as primary shell. Just
edit system.ini and replace shell=progman.exe by shell=5in1.exe.
You will win 10 K and many seconds bypassing Icon redraw, screen
refresh etc. You can still run other programs from the dos command line
as before . Ex : 'WIN /2 write my.doc'.
2) 5in1 gives you information about your current Windows 3.0 mode
Real , Standard or Enhanced in the Title Bar.
It gives you also the amount of Free Available Memory.
The blue number is the amount of conventional memory.
If you see a green number , you are running in EMS mode and this number
is the amount of expanded memory.
The last red number is the number of tasks currently running.
In addition , you will see 6in1 flashing every time too much time
is spent by Windows in compacting memory when system memory is low.
It's the signal that you must close some tasks to get memory.
3) 5in1 gives you too a Fast Exit Mode for exiting Windows without any
confirmation. No time to loose for saving File Manager or Progman
Manager settings ? Just select 'Fast Exit ' in the menu and exit at
speed of light !
4) 5in1 includes a small shell from which you can
easily run other Windows or Dos applications. If you don't specify
the complete path , the small shell will search for executable file
in this order :
a - the current directory
b - the Windows directory ( the one including Win.com )
c - the Windows system directory ( the one including Kernelx.exe)
d - the directories included in your PATH statement
e - the list of directories mapped in a network.
5) 5in1 flash when receiving a WM_COMPACTING message from Windows 3.0
kernel. This message is sent to all top-level windows when Windows
detects that more than 12.5 percent of system time over a 30- to 60-
second interval is being spent compacting memory. This indicates that
system memory is low.
When an application receives this message, it should free as much
memory as possible, taking into account the current level of
activity of the application and the total number of applications
running in Windows.
