*** JUST WHAT IS WINCHECK ***
WinCheck is the finest Windows 3.0 based personal finance manager
there is. It can help you keep track of various sorts of checking,
savings, credit card and cash accounts. It helps you balance your
checkbook and figure out how much money you really have.
WinCheck can print checks (most any checks that can fit in your computer
and are pre-printed with your account number. To order computer checks
call "Financial Registers" at the number below and they will assist you.)

WinCheck can also print are wide variety of pre-designed or custom
reports. The WinCheck report generator allows you to design reports
almost completely with a mouse.
The extensive online help facility pretty much precludes the need for
the manual, although the heavily illustrated manual does go into further
detail on many operations and gives various examples.

*** REGISTRATION REMINDERS ***
Evaluation copies of WinCheck are 100% fully functional. The sole
limitation you may find is that the evaluation copies are unable to
import data generated by previous versions of the WinCheck program.
Evaluation copies of WinCheck have a pesky registration reminder screen
that pops up whenever you start the program. Thats it!
We're not going to beat you about the head and shoulders with our
reminder screens. We're sure that once you see the incredible quality
of our software, you will dig out your credit card, pick up the phone,
call the nice people at our 800 number and register WinCheck.
When you pay for the shareware you like, you are voting with your
pocketbook, and will encourage us to bring you more of the same kinds

*** FOR WINCHECK <= 2.2A USERS ***
If you are using WinCheck Version 2.2A or lesser, converting
to WinCheck 3.0 data is easy! Just open the account in
WinCheck 3.0. WinCheck will ask you for starting Balances.
Leave all values at 0.00. The account will be named "Previous
Version". Type in your own personal description of the account
(i.e. "My Personal Savings"). When prompted for a checkbook,
just press OK. Basically, accepting the default values will
convert your account perfectly!
Evaluation copies of WinCheck cannot convert data files from
previous versions of WinCheck.
*** HOW TO INSTALL WINCHECK ***
This installation assumes that you either have an ZIP file that you
just unzipped that contains WinCheck, or that you are looking at one
of our evaluation diskettes. In any case, installation is simple:
1) Create a new directory to hold both the WinCheck program and the
WinCheck files. (Both the WinCheck program and the WinCheck files
MUST reside in the same directory.) For instance, the new directroy
might be:
C:\WINCHECK
2) Copy all the files from the installation diskette or the unzip
directory to the directory you just created.
3) Run the WCMAKE.EXE program. It will create all the files required.
4) Start Windows (if you are not already doing all this from Windows)
5) Create a Program Manager icon for WINCHECK.EXE and possibly also
for QUICK34.EXE if you wish to import Quicken data.
*** PRINTING PROBLEMS? ***
Most printer drivers have special features that take added
advantage of the Windows 3.0 environment. WinCheck assumes
that you have one of these drivers installed. Some older
printer drivers, and current versions of some font packages
(Bitstream Facelift) do not support these features.
If WinCheck does not print properly on your system, add the
following line to the [WiChk14a] section of your WIN.INI file:
NODEVMODE=1
This line will cause WinCheck to bypass the special printer
driver features that cause the problems. Note: You will not
be able to print landscape checks if you use the NODEVMODE=1
option.
*** CONVERTING DATA FROM QUICKEN AND OTHER PRODUCTS ***
Quicken is a registered trademark of the Intuit.
WinCheck can convert data from any software package that
can export data in the Quicken QIF format. Quicken and
several other software packages can output data in the
Quicken QIF format.
WinCheck can import data through the WinCheck Control
Language. This language is discussed in Section 16.
Quicken versions 3.0 and 4.0 can export data in the
Quicken Interchange Format (QIF). QIF is a plain text
file that has standard tags, and this is the format
required for the Converter. Please refer to your Quicken
(or other software) Manual for the QIF description.
The WinCheck Quicken Converter is a separate application
that will generate a WinCheck control file from the QIF
file. Here is an example of how to convert your 1991 data
from Quicken to WinCheck:
1. Run Quicken. Load in your 1991 data. Note your
starting balances.
2. From Quicken, choose "Export" from the menu.
3. For this example, let's call the export file
EXP1991.EXP.
4. Once you have exported this file, exit Quicken.
5. Enter Windows, and double click on the WinCheck
Converter icon. Or, choose Run from the File menu
and specify QUICK34.EXE.
6. You will see an empty Window, with a convert menu.
Choose From Quicken Version 3 or 4 from the Convert
menu.
7. A dialog box asking for the Quicken Exported filename
will appear. Use this dialog to find the file
EXP1991.EXP. Indicate in this dialog if the account
to convert is a Checking account, a Savings account,
or a Credit account.
8. Once you have located this file, press the Convert
button.
9. An hourglass will appear. The WinCheck Converter is
busy converting yur data.
After a while (5-60 seconds, depending on your data),
the Converter will display a message stating that the
conversion is complete. The file Q34CONV.WCB has
been created.
10. Close the WinCheck Converter.
11. Run WinCheck.
12. Specify a new account. For example, we will use Y91.
13. Specify a Checking/Cash account, Checking/Savings
account, or a Credit Card account.
14. IMPORTANT: Change the Starting Date field in the
Account Info dialog to 1/91 (for this example).
15. Fill in the description of the account with anything
you want.
16. Fill in the starting balances.
17. Press the OK button.
18. Define a checkbook or press OK.
19. Note that your starting balances are for the start of
the year. Now it is time to import in the data.
20. Choose Run/Edit WinCheck Command File from the Acct
menu.
21. Use the dialog to locate Q34CONV.WCB .
This conversion process will take a long time.
Typical conversion times run from 1 minute to 30
minutes, depending on the speed of your computer and
the amount of data to convert. Make sure you have
the time available.
22. Press the Run button.
23. Once the conversion is complete, the register will
display your converted data and your current balance.
Conversion Issues:
Quicken uses Categories:Subcategories/Classes. WinCheck
uses only Categories and Subcategories. WinCheck will
combine the Class and category into one category. For
example, "Utility:Electric/PERSONAL" will be changed to
"PERSONAL/Utility:Electric". "PERSONAL/Utility" is the
category, and "Electric" is the subcategory.
Quicken's export files do not specify the type of
transaction. WinCheck will do the best that it can to
convert your transactions to the same type (i.e. Checks to
Checks). If WinCheck finds a transaction of an unknown
type, it will create a Misc transaction. This will
accurately track your dollar amount.
WinCheck will not convert investments from Quicken 4.0.

WinCheck is not and has never been public domain
software, nor is it free software.
Non-licensed users are granted a limited license to use
WinCheck on a 21-day trial basis for the purpose of
determining whether WinCheck is suitable for their
needs. The use of WinCheck, except for the initial
21-day trial, requires registration. The use of
unlicensed copies of WinCheck, outside of the initial
21-day trial, by any person, business, corporation,
government agency or any other entity is strictly prohibited.
A single user license permits a user to use WinCheck
only on a single computer. Licensed users may use the
program on different computers, but may not use the program
on more than one computer at the same time.
No one may modify or patch the WinCheck executable
files in any way, including but not limited to
decompiling, disassembling, or otherwise reverse
engineering the program.
A limited license is granted to copy and distribute
WinCheck only for the trial use of others, subject
to the above limitations, and also the following:
1) WinCheck must be copied in unmodified form, complete
with the file containing this license information.
2) The full machine-readable WinCheck documentation must
be included with each copy.
3) WinCheck may not be distributed in conjunction with
any other product with out a specific license to do so
from Wilson WindowWare.
4) No fee, charge, or other compensation may be requested or
accepted, except as authorized below:
A) Operators of electronic bulletin board systems (sysops)
may make WinCheck available for downloading only as
long as the above conditions are met. An overall or
time-dependent charge for the use of the bulletin board
system is permitted as long as there is not a specific
charge for the download of WinCheck.
B) Vendors of user-supported or shareware software approved by
the ASP may distribute WinCheck, subject to the
above conditions, without specific permission. Non-
approved vendors may distribute WinCheck only after
obtaining written permission from Wilson WindowWare.
Such permission is usually granted. Please write for
details (enclose your catalog). Vendors may charge a
disk duplication and handling fee, which, when pro-rated
to the WinCheck product, may not exceed eight dollars.
ASP approved vendors will automatically be updated with the
latest versions of this software on a regular basis.
C) Non-profit user groups may distribute copies of the WinCheck
diskette to their members, subject to the above conditions,
without specific permission. Non-profit groups may collect
a disk duplication fee not to exceed five dollars.
LIMITED WARRANTY
Wilson WindowWare guarantees your satisfaction with this
product for a period of 90 days from the date of original
purchase. If you are unsatisfied with WinCheck
within that time period, return the package in saleable
condition to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Wilson WindowWare warrants that all disks provided are
free from defects in material and workmanship, assuming
normal use, for a period of 90 days from the date of
purchase.
Wilson WindowWare warrants that the program will perform
in substantial compliance with the documentation supplied
with the software product. If a significant defect in
the product is found, the Purchaser may return the
product for a refund. In no event will such a refund
exceed the purchase price of the product.
EXCEPT AS PROVIDED ABOVE, WILSON WINDOWWARE DISCLAIMS ALL
WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
