Comparison of BRU / BRU-PE Features

BRU-PE 15.1 and earlier is a non-commercial, non-network, home use only version of BRU that supports Linux and FreeBSD.

The commercial version of BRU includes the following features that are not available in BRU-PE:

    Network-oriented backup operations, including:

      Backup of mounted NFS volumes
      Backup to remote tape drives
      Backup of Mounted SMB/Windows Volumes

    Provisions for the backup of RAW partitions/devices

    Provisions for fifo-based controls (BRUTALK)

    Double-buffered I/O

    Translate On RestoreTM - File renaming during restore

    Tape Overwrite Protection

All other features of BRU are fully supported in PE.

Additionally, tapes created with other releases of BRU are fully compatible with the Personal Edition and tapes created with Personal Edition are compatible with the standard version of BRU.
