I have the impression that australia > has no CW ident but is limited to AX.25, and the US can do either - is > that correct ? Australia has no CW ident law nor are we limited in what protocol we can run however we do have *very* restrictive identification laws. :-( We must carry the callsigns of the "originating" station, the "destination" station and the "transmitting" station in EVERY "packet". (Words in quotes are actually used in the regs). (and Yes, as Phil Karn pointed out, under these rules BBSs are illegal, however they are "tolerated" as is Netwrong and IP). Interpretation and enforcement of these regs is different in EACH state. There are new regs ready to be made law however we've been waiting over 18 months for them. The creation of a new agency to control the allocation and management of the spectrum (By Auction in some cases. :-( ) has held them up and we have no date set when they will be actioned. The new regs will require that only the "transmitting" station will need to be identified. (I think only once every 15 minutes or so but on that I'm not sure). It wouldn't be too hard to adapt for the air. Phil has MD5 in his code, but it's a different version from that published in the RFC, so there are conflicts.
