As good hackers do, they steal a domain, address range and access to the "real thing". They found that ipswich.wa2hee.ampr.org is an open gateway and use it to fake access (call cb0cbm). I have closed the Dutch gateway for the ipswich gateway. I do hope others close off their systems as well. Regards, Gerard. PS, I hope I have rhe wa2 part of the offending gateway correct. I pulled it from top of my memory. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Aug 93 11:37:01 EDT From: mg@bds.com Subject: cb.ampr.org? To: pa0gri@tophat.cdh.cdc.com >They found that ipswich.wa2hee.ampr.org >is an open gateway and use it to fake access (call cb0cbm). ipswich has been closed to such naughtiness since Aug 4th. We disabled access to ipswich from the internet after someone pointed it out. There haven't been any bogus logins since then. Please see if it's really a problem before "closing it off". If it still offends, please let me know by email to sysop@wa2hee.ampr.org. (The complaint I got came in via ttylink, not email, and I only heard about it second hand, so I didn't even know who to thank!) mg ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Aug 93 21:50:32 CST From: kf5mg@kf5mg.ampr.org Subject: Drsi Board Settings To: tcp-Group@ucsd.edu Anyone have any suggestions for PARAM 1 - X for DRSI boards? I'm having all kinds of problems talking to a system that's using DRSI bards. Don't seem to have problems talking to other systems. I can hear the signals and they are s-8, but my box is not decoding them. I can decode the small - ack type - packets, but once it goes to > 128 bytes, I can't decode anything. Any suggestions would be appreciated. 73's de Jack - kf5mg ( running JNOS in a 735K - OS/2 2.1 Dos Box! ) Internet - kf5mg@kf5mg.ampr.org - 44.28.0.14 AX25net - kf5mg@kf5mg.#dfw.tx.usa.noam - home (817) 488-4386 Worknet - kf5mg@vnet.ibm.com - work (817) 962-4409 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- | "I am Homer of Borg.... Crompton) Subject: NT is out To: tcp-group@ucsd.edu Yes NT is out. I hadn't been installing the beta's for the most part but got my final version last week. Installation was rather easy with the CD ROM. Sure beats swapping disks. Other than that it seems to work OK. Lots of security. There are some problems though! 1. I have TCP/IP installed and when I enter the accessories group terminal set it for telnet (get the telnet prompt back) and then type a CONTROL J and then an enter at the keyboard the system crashes - memory violations and a very unstable system or complete lockup. It does bring up DR. Watson before it crashes. Bug report submitted to Microsoft. Telnet does work - just don't do the above!! Sure doesn't say much for a stable (fault tolerant) system that MS touts. 2. I tried installing a serial printer to com1 and had it working and then when I restarted the system I lost com1 never to return! Working with MS on this one and they have not been much help to date. Sure is aggravating!! Called about courses and have heard similiar horror stories about crashes. Looks like MS is going to have to have another release. I sure would not want to trust anything valuable on it right now. Microsoft has an NT machine hanging on the internet for driver/doc updates etc. - It is gowinnt.microsoft.com - alias for ftp.microsoft.com Doug ------------------------------ End of TCP-Group Digest V93 #215 ****************************** ******************************
