The drsi not receiving was discovered to be caused by a lack of nibufs.
Guess 5 just wasnt enough.

Not transmitting is still a mystery . The TAPR 9600 baud modem I plugged
in may have got zapped by the rs232 levels before i made the ttl level
jumnpers.

Hello Folks, I have done some testing with my system running OS/2 in regards
to the several versions of NOS. I am running OS/2 on a 486 system with
three serial ports. One port is dedicated to slip link, one is for the
local link (radio), and the other is for a PACTOR controller. I originally
ran two software programs under windows 3.1 (WG7J code and a Pactor program).
When I brought these two up under OS/2 in a DOS screen my system just ground
to a slow crawl. There is a little program in OS/2 that shows the 'pulse' of
the system in a graph. I noticed that when either of the DOS async programs
were loaded the graph would indicate the system to be maxed out. It would
even do this when qmodem or procomm were loaded.
I loaded up PMNOS and PMAIL as my NOS system, and the system now runs as
expected. there is little to no slow down with this operation. PMAIL is
quite a slick little mailer. It even has an icon of a mailbox and when mail
shows up it raises the flag as you would to indicate to the mailman. One
catch with pmail was there MUST be a 'spool' directory in the root directory
of the drive you start pmail in. Performance of PMNOS is as good as any of
the NOS packages. In fact the slip link has better thruput than any of the
nos(dos) compiles. One command screen and all other opened screens have their
own screen that can be 'windowed' or full screen. PMAIL is a seperate running
session, with its own set of screens. Simular to running a 'mailer' fulltime.
If you have not used PMNOS and PMAIL for OS/2 I suggest you get a copy and
give it a try. You will be pleasently supprised. I am looking forward to what
Walt has in store for the next generation.
Thanks Walt.
