Hi Eric,

What I use for my downlink receiver is a Radio Shack HT-100.  I've seen them 
at flea markets for $125, and I think you could talk someone down to $100.

If you build a direct conversion receiver, I think a lot of us here would be 
interested in you results.  I've tried in vain to find any sort of plan for 
building a 2m CW/SSB transmitter.
