I heard that AEA is going to have a software update for the DSP-2232 that
enables the up/down clicks for Doppler control. Wonder if there are any
other changes?

Has anyone heard any details yet?

I wonder if this will be a free upgrade for us satellite users, as the original docs list this as a feature?

To carry this discussion one step further, the FCC has issued several
public statements cautioning potential investors in these so-called
"FCC goldmines" that they do not exist. Companies claiming that you
can sell your winning lottery entry for gazillions of dollars did not
apparently read the rules. Winners MUST CONSTRUCT the complete system
before they can sell their license to a PCS system.
As Max pointed out, there are no available spectrum windows for any
new alternative services, and the existing opportunities involve multi-
BILLION dollar investments in newly developing technologies. I don't
vote for the bank, try investing in stocks of the companies that will be
building the hardware when PCS and other services get rolling. WA8NVW

No such luck, Mike. There are some upcoming initiatives before the FCC
regarding spectrum expansion for wireless LAN networks, PCS, and digital
messaging, etc., but nothing that's available for the public. Any new
spectrum allocation will almost certainly br accompanied by a license
lottery, for which the applicant must post significant bond as proof of
his/her ability to build a system.

SMR, which was more akin to the older style 'mobile operator' phone system
has undergone significant chages in the last few years, and is very
cellular-like, although you don't really use cells, and roaming options
are quite limited. SMR operators are employing these systems on the
existing SMR spectrum.

PCS is also getting a lot of attention, but the existing cellular carriers
are making great strides at providing these services given their existing
equipment.

I would say your friend's cash is a lot safer in the bank than it is
trying to create a new communications competitor. You're better off
investing in one of the existing options- getting new spectrum for your
own project would cost millions and require at least 5 years of paperwork.

(My thoughts, not my employer's, who obviously disagreed with me)

The telnet number for SpaceLink has not changed. I just logged in to be
sure. It did take several attempts so I suspect its been busy.

The ARRL publishes a good book on satellite operation. Don't remember the
exact title, but you can find it listed in QST. Costs about $20.00, at
least the last one I bought did.
