i have the aea dsp-2232 and it exhibits the same problem... regardless of
baud rate used between the 2232 and the computer... this problem
with aea controllers and pg is not new... the original version of
pg would often send pg into an endless loop of sending ;);)... to the
screen when you connected to the satellite... not always, but more
than half the time... obviously, there was some type of timing problem
between the controller and pg... aea was made aware of the problem and
posted a patched version of pg to compuserve that was supposed to
fix the problem... it doesn't ... the patched software has the
problem eric described in his original post... and guess what,
the pk-900 (with the optional 9600 baud modem) has EXACTLY
the same problem with pg... kind of makes you wonder, doesn't
it... but, let's face it, the controller manufacturers (aea,
kantronics) make great hareware, but they have problems with
the software (pactor, anyone?)...

Subject: Shuttle Antenna
To: ham-space@ucsd.edu

Does anyone have any information on what type of antenna is used on the shuttle for 2 meter packet and voice? I read an article stating they used a "cavity" antenna that "they poped in the front window". I am a new Ham, 5 weeks, and wonder what a cavity antenna is. As the shuttle orbits rear forward, is this why I hear them so much better the second half of each pass (as the antenna is in a front window?). Also, is this type of antenna directional at all.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Is there an ftp site where I can regularly get up-to-date KEPS for
the AMSATS? I have InstaTrak at home and would like to keep the
KEPS up to date. TNX and 73 de Stephen N5PBD
