"I hate CW geeks" can move on to the next article. This does not apply
to you.

This regards the Hints & Kinks piece in March QST about replacing paddle
feet with
suction cups to help keep the key in place.

I located an excellent source for suction cups. The local WalMart is
selling their
bottom-of-the-line automotive stick on clipboards for $0.25. I replaced
two of the
feet on a set of Benchers with the two suction cups from one of these
clipboards. It
seems to work well, although I have yet to give it a heavy duty workout.
Not bad for
a total cost of one quarter. Plus, with a little creativity you can
still find a use
for the desuctioncupped clipboard.

I have no idea how many locations carry this item or how the price may
vary by location.
(I could say "your mileage may vary", but that is a phrase probably
inappropriate to
be coming from the antiquated brain of someone who "does" CW.)

Subject: Canadian Reciprocal Licences
To: info-hams@ucsd.edu

The licence issuers in the US seem to take a real pasting from many people
in
the US for their long delays. I've got to say that the Canadians at
Industry Canada,
are so fast it is hard to believe.

Calender :
14 March posted request here for reciprocal info
16 March replies to posting (thanks to those who replied)
17 March Fax to Edmonton Office of Industry Canada to confirm procedure
17 March Reply by fax saying send copy of licence (and NO money - it's
free)
21 March Sent copy of licence by fax
28 March Canadian licence arrives here (it left Edmonton on 21 March)

Now that's service, and at a price I like!

By the way, the RSGB in the UK think it takes 3 months and that you contact
the Dept of Communications.
I'd better tell them that its a little quicker than that.

Finally, the licence says I need to use G4APV/VE6. I thought that
convention would put the VE6 bit in
front?

Hope to hear some of you when I am in Edmonton in June/July this year

I love mine, in spite of the intermod problems... If you live near a metro
area, you might not be happy with the rcvr, especially on UHF. The features are
really fun to play with...

Also be aware that this month's QST has a new model , 733, advertised. I don't
know if this rig is available, but I'd check before I bought a 732. The rcvr
problems are likely to be fixed on this model...

Again, if you don't live in a high RF environment, I'd buy the 732 - It's a great
radio.

Well, I have a Standard dual-band HT (C528A), and recently got to play
with one of their mobiles.. it's got a brick you put under the seat or
wherever, and the control head is the microphone.. very impressive.
Standard is an excellent company, and their radios while a bit more
expensive are an excellent investment.

I have been proved wrong (phooey). Delete the `and only if' in the
above, for as some folks have pointed out there are other reasons
for appending a number besides whether or not the country has divided
itself into radio districts.

Kok: Know who first used `iff' in the literature? Hint: He used to be
Chairman of the U.H. Math Dept. (didn't stay long, though...) and he
is quite famous. [VERY big hint: his intials are P.H.]
