I am using a UNIX work station for my hobbie computer. I am trying to Get UUCP to work with a friends computer that is on the inter_net. Most of the time I can send mail to a user with a node address but not allways. All of the time I can send mail and receive mail to the machine doing the uucp connection with mine. Allways when mail comes from the network to mine it ends up in the dead.letter file. I am looking for someone on the net work to exchange headers with that could help me with this. Working thru this has been a lot of fun but this is kind of a bump. Thanks for your time .... Having previously had a short term reciprocal licence when in Vancouver some years ago I am aware that the best thing to do is to apply to the local Department of Communications Regional Office. Can some one tell me which one that is for Edmonton, and let me have the address. If you know the fax number that is even better. (Faxes are wonderful for a fast reply!) A real puzzle. : Gary A first class enigma ! Ever try a spectrum analyser and close-field probe on it ? Another thing would have been to try to use a scope to verify that it was repetitive at engine revs, and if so what it coincided with. I hate to have missed such a puzzle. Seems I got a couple of (mild) flames about saying no computers on my Diesel, well MINE HAS NONE. There's one in the pull-out entertainment radio, but that just pulls out. No engine management CPU, no computer aided instruments of airconditioning, manual gears. Nice ! and it meets all the emissions regulations scheduled to come in up to the end of the century. It's a direct injection unit, and apart from start-up runs without any visible smoke even on throttle opening and full boost. Fuel consumption is better than HALF that of the petrol (gasolene) version of the same vehicle.. this translates into less CO2 as well as less money. Direct injection turbodiesels have reduced the particle problem somewhat, and it looks like the cyclone particle traps should kill the problem completely. I'm not sure how the petrol engine could compete afterwards without a CO2 remover.... I cannot remember things unless I really understand them and the league manuals are definitely the optimum IMHO. They give you actually more than you need to take the test and the good is that you can use them later as a reference. Regarding the code test, I'm with Dan again suggesting SuperMorse in any version you can find (I think the current is 4.10 and should be widely available on the net). Using the tape I guest can lead to memorization after some time while SM can generate random patterns that teach you to really copy code (the blocks are meaningless group of words) instead of presuming the word before it is really received (useful when you'll be on the air). 73! To: info-hams@ucsd.edu Hi, Need recommendation for a small TX amp kit which takes about 4 watts output from my QRP rig and puts out 20-30 watts with built in T-R switching (preferably solid-state T-R) and runs off 12-13.8v DC power supply. Must be small so I can fit it into my existing rig's casing. Should be something similar to the QAMP-20 from Ramsey Hobby kits. BTW, this is for 20 meters. Does that mean I could get back an >old call I held if it hasn't been reassigned?? >Jeff See February QST and other amateur radio magazines for all the details -- maybe even look at ftp.fcc.gov (although i doubt anything on this is there...) haven't pulled an index in a while, but also see info@arrl.org and some of the other places (what is it? world.std.com? for one...) QST printed the RM in Feb in it's entirety. The ARRL filed for and got an extension of time for filing comments. And if you have the bucks (proposal would be $70) and the call is unassigned (it would be #1 on your list of 10 you submit - if the proposal were to pass unrevised) you could get it...although i believe you pay regardless of whether or not any of your ten favorite calls is available... bill wb9ivr ------------------------------ End of Info-Hams Digest V94 #291 ****************************** ******************************
