I find that writing down the characters I copy rather distracting and tends to make me lose characters. I guess I could copy at 18 wpm but still writing down is the hardest part. Also, is it advisable to be buffering (lagging) in your decoding? Around 1980 I was a student at UNSW. One of the UNSWARS members had gained access to computer time on a PDP-11, and the necessary interfaces to make a RTTY repeater. We applied to the WIA for repeater approval, including a document which explained all about the ASCII code. We were refused permission for any kind of repeater running ASCII. The official response was simply "NO", the rumour was that WIA disposals had a lot of metal monsters that they still wanted to get rid of. I suspect the actual reason was just that those in control didn't want to see anyone doing anything different or innovative. I am conducting some preliminary market research for a small business which I plan to start during 94. I am considering offering 2m amplifier kits. My questions at this point call for a survey of sorts to determine what features are important and in fact is such a kit likely to have any appeal. Please respond via email if you have opinions on the following. 1. Would you consider building a kit amplifier if the performance was comparable with current market offerings? 2. If yes to question 1, how much savings are required to justify building a kit versus buying a built amplifier. 3. What features would you most like to have in a kit? 4. Are there any features which current market offerings do not have that you would like to see in a kit? 5. Do you think use of amplifiers with HTs, particularly for mobile use would significantly improve your communications? Thanks in advance for any feedback, and please add any additional info that you think is appropriate for this research. -- Robert Craig Newbold Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta Georgia, 30332 uucp: ...!{decvax,hplabs,ncar,purdue,rutgers}!gatech!prism!gt6681a Internet: gt6681a@prism.gatech.edu ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Feb 1994 22:22:56 GMT From: agate!howland.reston.ans.net!cs.utexas.edu!oakhill!victorc@network.ucsd.edu Subject: test To: info-hams@ucsd.edu test. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Feb 1994 23:12:40 GMT From: agate!howland.reston.ans.net!cs.utexas.edu!oakhill!victorc@network.ucsd.edu Subject: TEST To: info-hams@ucsd.edu This is a testing. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Feb 1994 23:25:31 GMT From: agate!usenet.ins.cwru.edu!howland.reston.ans.net!cs.utexas.edu!oakhill!victorc@network.ucsd.edu Subject: TEST To: info-hams@ucsd.edu This is a testing. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Feb 1994 21:02:54 GMT From: agate!library.ucla.edu!europa.eng.gtefsd.com!howland.reston.ans.net!cs.utexas.edu!oakhill!victorc@network.ucsd.edu Subject: Testing To: info-hams@ucsd.edu Hi this is a testing. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 2 Feb 1994 17:32:51 GMT From: ucsnews!sol.ctr.columbia.edu!news.mtu.edu!caen!destroyer!jobone!slee01.srl.ford.com!eccdb1.pms.ford.com!pt5000.pto.ford.com!blake@network.ucsd.edu Subject: Wanted: Mods for Collins KWM-2A To: info-hams@ucsd.edu I am looking for any published mods for the Collins KWM-2A.
