Gary, you are seeing the devil behind every bush. You apparently don't know much about the structure of the typical "cabinet." First, the Section Managers are not the Director's "appointees." They are elected by the members in each section within the Division. The ARRL Affiliated club Presidents are also invited to attend the cabinet meetings, at least in the New England Division. These are elected on a local level, by each club. The rest of the cabinet often includes many of the Director's appointees, but the cabinet is not the "old boy" network that you are imagining, not by a long shot. To: info-hams@ucsd.edu I received and tried five different general logging programs this last September. These were mostly demo disks (but still enough to get a good feel for the program's merits and failings.) None were hot contest-style, ala CT. -- To shorten a long story, I found WB2OPA's LogMaster Plus/Plus to come out on top. Its main advantage to me was its ability to produce customized reports. An example: to pull and print from the overall data base a report of all contacts confirmed (QSL), by country, by mode, by alphabetized call sign. This gave me a master report for my QSL file. I then repeated the request for 10M, 40M, 80M and 160M as separate, smaller reports. The LogMaster program easily produced these. Now I feel I've some control over 1000's of bits of data and cards for the first time in many years of DXing. -- Overall LogMaster has proven a valuable tool and I continue to appreciate what it can do as I use it. (By the way, for my "average" speed in contest, this program worked fine for me. It might be a tad slow if you're making several thousand Q's over a weekend, but for my several hundred, its "rapid entry" mode and autiomatic date/time recording proved great. -- I'd suggest trying several demo programs, just as I did. Include LogMaster in your trials. Its worthy of a test. The club "RRC" ( Russian Robinson Club ) created at the beginning of 1993 rendered support in organization more than ten island arctic DX' pedition in 1993, two of which are NEW IOTA: 4K2RRC (EU 019), 4K3RRC (EU 082), 4K4RRC (AS 005), 4K5RRC (AS 025), 4K3GW (EU 161), 4K3WQ (EU 162), 4K3/RW3GW (EU 082), 4K3/RA1ZA, 4K3/RA1WQ, UW1ZZ/A (EU 082), UW1ZZ/A (EU 161), 4K4DV (AS 029). During this year Russian island national diploma program (RRA) has been developed like national island program of Italy (IIA), Spain (IDEA), France (DIFM), Portugal (DIP), Polska (SP IOTA A). Competitors of this program have receive already more than 120 diplomas. We greatly hope that interest to Russian national island "RRA" will be increased every year. Besides it a list with separate numbering of Russian islands according to "RRA" has been developed already. Club "RRC" publishes magazin - report every quarter which informers about members of this club; last island, polar and sea expedition (.../mm); IOTA - News; database of Russian island stations, antarctic station (4K1); diplomas and other news. Every Sunday at 08:00 utc 14.120 +/- QRM this club organizes different discussions. The club "RRC" includes a great number of polar explorers, islanders, navigators which had a lot of expedition to islands, Antarctica (4K1) and (.../mm). Besides it there is a lot of radioamateurs interested in IOTA and "RRA". At present this club experiences a great financial problems for arranging expeditions to Russian islands and other places. There are wonderful opportunities to visit many islands among which rare available and desert, which are of great interes- ting opportunities and suggestions. This club has many problems with industrial radio apparatus which is sometimes necessary in expeditions. Now many of radioamateurs work with home-made apparatus which often break at unsuitable moment. Sometimes there are rare possibilities to visit islands of Arctic and Antarctic basin. The club has a wonderful developed diploma program but financial means are greatly need for its realization. Council of "RRC" applies to sponsor, radioamateurs, organiza- tions, associations, funds and clubs to render any financial support in carrying out islands expeditions. We shall also be thankful to all who give us any used (second- hand) industrial radio apparatus for its further using in dif- ferent expedition. In all cases any sponsor will receive a description of events, photos, slides or videofilm from the participants of DX' pedi- tions. The sponsors indicate in their agreement what they want to have in return for their financial support or apparatus. All those who will render any support in any cases they'll be free of charge subscribers of our magazine-report "Russian Robinson News". "RRC" invites all interested HAMs from diffe- rent countries of the world to arrange joint expedition to the islands of Russia. "RRC" can help to arrange any visit to any island of Russia and to settle all organization problems. Wait for your suggestions ! Address of head quarters: P. O. Box 3, 398000, Lipetsk, Russia. You log all of the information. Tapes, logs of transmission times, etc. Then what? Realistically, there isn't a damned thing you can do about a jammer, and most jammers probably know that.
