Hello all.

I'd like more information on the Chicken Fat Operators organization.
They're the guys and gals who (I seem to recall) require a proficiency
of at least 40 wpm for membership. How does one join? Is it by
nomination? Do they have a newsletter? Thanks.

I would like to have the dayton travel discount package. I have made my
reservation , but need the Dayton package referance number. It is the one
that if you mentioned the number to your local travel agent. It will include
airline and hotel prices.

Yesterday I visited the ARRL in Newington and met Ed Hare in his

Thanks, Ed, for the nice visit.

GM and followed the best advice I've yet heard -- KEEP A LOG! :-) While I reali
that logs aren't officially required these days, they really do help keep
track of who's who -- especially when more than three or four people are in
a roundtable. It's also more than just records of names and calls scratched
on paper -- it's a piece of your life. Even in the short time I've been on
the air, I get a lump in my throat when reviewing the log. . . stirring
memories of memorable conversations with old friends and old timers. There's

Amen to that. I recently completed the entry of all of my old paper
logs into my logbook database on the pc. Amazing how the old QSO's
come back to life after 20 years...

One thing I learned, with my new database time and dates recorded in
GMT - I wish I hadn't logged in CST/CDT back then.

Subject: Expanded receive for Yaesu 2700?
To: info-hams@ucsd.edu

My "new" mobile is a Yaesu 2700 dual bander with ranges from 144 to
150(!) Mhz and 440 to 450 Mhz. Does anyone know of a way to expand
the receiving capabilities (especially for the 2-meter side)? I'd
like to be able to tune the 150+ Mhz public service band and if
possible the NOAA weather frequencies.

(Transmit is not an issue, unless and until I join the MARS program.)

As a partial list of ham radio stores in the Los Angeles, CA area...

There is Jun's in Culver City (vicinity of Jefferson and Sepulveda)
Henry Radio in the West Los Angeles/Westwood area (Bundy just north
of Pico Blvd) and a number of Ham Radio Outlet stores (see the
phone book).

Now, are there more... ? I've got folks that are looking as well.

I wouldn't normally quote an entire message in reply, but it bears
repeating. I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments about TRANSMITTING out
of band. (My message had to do with restricting reception.) However, I think
your last sentence should have said "...before the FCC or Congress get wise
and sell the rest of the spectrum".

Hi. I'm looking for a detailed list of the repeaters in Austin, Texas. I
bought the ARRL Repeater Directory, but I've already heard reference to three
repeaters that in my area that aren't listed in the directory. If you can help
me with this please contact me via email at kip@sepia.cc.utexas.edu.

What was wrong with my radio or was it ME ? Why does everyone I qso with
call me a LID ? After some ti

they did send me a nice card. So now when I qso on cw I always use 599
and never soLID cpy.

I used to had trouble distinguishing "f" and "l". After a really
nice QSO, sometimes the other operator would wish me "good luck,"
and I couldn't figure out why he was mad at me all of a sudden :-).

Subject: WANTED: comments on IC-4SRA HT
To: info-hams@ucsd.edu

As I continue to budget my money, I am beginning to eye the ICOM IC-4SRA HT.

I'd really like to know the performance of the wide-coverage receive
side of the radio. From everything I've read about it, it seems to be
continuous coverage. Is this true?

Thanks for any info.

Scott

Why can't they? Because they're incapable of the degree of cooperation
required. But you knew that.

As for technical reasons: it could be done. All the users would have to
buy or build mobile radio controllers, which in most cases means they'd
have to buy new radios. Can you even begin to imagine that happening?

No way, no how, never.

No different than the commercial dog-fights on your typical 462MHz
repeater. The trunking technology makes them behave on 860MHz ;)

Why not ? mobile radio controllers should be an easy black-box add on to
the radios out there now. Why do you think there is a computer port in
most of these radios? Who ever thought of cloning frequencies over the air
a couple of years ago. It is all there.....why not use it. Who ever makes
the black-box will make lotsa money.

: No way, no how, never.

Thats what the AM simplex guys said about the new repeaters on 2meters
about 25 years ago.

: - Brian

How do you propose to get a million new hams on our repeaters...technology
can help.
