Subject: [Q] COLLINS KWM-380 Yaesu ST7000
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu

Hi,
I am sending this mail for a friend, kt5x, who does not have
internet access. He has a Collins KWM-380 transceiver and a Yaesu ST7000
amp. He would like to conenct his computer between to two so the
computer can check the transceivers frequency and when he changes
bands the computer will issue the commands to his yaesu amp to switch
bands.
In otherwords, the computer will allow him to switch bands
from his transceiver without having to touch his amp.

The problem is that he does not have the computer interface
information for his Collins transceiver for either the hardware connection
and the software commands.

He also does not have the commands needed to talk to his Yaesu amp.
He has written Yaesu several but has never gotten a response.

Can anyone out in netland help him out?

Several weeks ago, somebody asked where/if you can buy a female BNC to
male 1/8 in. phone plug adapter to be used to connect a BNC antenna to
the scanner side of the ICOM 2SRA. Any resolution to the quest? Thanks...

To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu

I have connected FT-470 to cigarette lighter in my car and I am using a mag
mount antenna (MFG). I do have mic-speaker connected also. I find that when
the car is in motion there is lot of noise (static) but as soon as the car
is idle, the noise dies and the signal is 5-9+.
Can someone recommend me, what I should do to correct the problem ?

Subject: Help on article
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu

HI,

I am working on writing an article whose purpose it will be to help new
hams in their search for used HF gear.

I am very interested in personal opinions/comments that might help in
this matter.

here is the proposed outline:

HF Rigs, Buying Used Gear

- Some tubes vs all transistors and what it means to ham
- what bands does it cover (WARC?)
- what modes does it have (CW/SSB/FM/FSK)
- built in vs. external power supply
- size
- price range
- extras: RIT,XIT, adjustable IF, filtering, computer control for banswitching and such,
option available, dual VFO and its use, speech processing, other
- good bets in different price ranges
- is rig especially good on one mode (cw vs ssb)
- can rig be easily turned down to QRP levels (optional section)
- built in cw keyer or filters

thanks...

Does anyone have a listing of what all of the (well, most, anyway) diode
selectable options are for the 02-AT? I figured out a few on my own a
while back, adn managed to get the thing to allow me to tune outside
the 2M band (though the PLL unlocks if too far out of band as expected).
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows what else (useful or not) might
  be possible...

Just a note, the Kenwood 599 twins do not have a matching power supply
speaker. The speaker is just a speaker. The power supply for each
unit is built into the radios. It is all there, its just that the
supply is in the radio boxes, not in the speaker box.

Hi gang,

I picked up this rig at a local hamfest and need to do some work
on the mike audio and also find a good place to inject the signal from a
new PL tone board I've installed. I have a complete owners and
alignment manual for the rig minus the fold out schematic. Do you or
someone you know/love have the schematic?

If you have the same rig and have done some work on it I'd be
glad to carry on a discussion of interesting mods.

Your help would be most appreceiated!

A handy device if you happen to own a large boat, but you don't ever
want to have to press that "AGROUND" button....

The public address system in it would be useful, but the button noises
would tend to annoy people after a while. Example: FOG1 is probably
a four second blast every two minutes.

If you are looking into one for your home, yes you need a supply. In your
car, of course, you just hook into the 12v system. A cheap way to operate
a 12v amp in your house is to buy a decent size Gell-Cell (SLA) and float a
charger across it. The battery will give you all the current you need and
can be obtained from swap meets etc. The charger does not need to have a
high current output (1 amp would suffice). One thing to keep in mind is that
using this method, you can't talk all day long and expect the battery to hold
out. SLA's can be deep cycled, but will last much longer if you can avoid
deep cycling.
