Hi,

I am looking to buy a 20 meter QRP kit. Can anyone recommend any good
tranceiver kits? Does the kit have VXO? VFO? synthesized etc etc. Cost.

 Tks.

Daniel: here's a reprint of the second project I posted on .homebrew.

Jeff NH6IL

******************************************************************************
Subject: Project 2 - 20 meter QRP CW xmtr

Here's the second QRP project taken from 101 EASY HAM RADIO PROJECTS,
by Robert Brown and Tom Kneitel; again, since the book is out of print,
I assume there will be no copyright problems...
This project is a simple 20 meter CW xmtr with output about 100 mw (?).
Here are the authors' comments:
"If you have always wanted to try low-power on 20 meters, here is an
excellent method for joining the growing ranks of flea-power addicts -
and doing it inexpensively. This circuit is capable of world-wide QSO's,
given the right conditions and assuming QRM is not present.
"The transmitter uses a pair of GE-1 universal replacement transistors
in a unique circuit configuration a great more sophisticated than you
would normally expect for an under-one-watt rig. Crystal can be a
fundamental 14-mHz type.
"L1 should be adjusted for sure-fire oscillation every time the
key is depressed. C4 is simply adjusted for maximum output on the FSM."

PARTS LIST:

C1, C2 .02 uF capacitors
C3, C5 .002 uF capacitors
C4 51 pF variable capacitor
L1 38 turns of No. 22 enameled wire on a 1/2 in. diameter
           slug-tuned form
L2 8 turns of No. 22 enameled wire wound over cold end of L1
L3 Coil, 17 turns of Air Dux 616T (or equiv.) tapped 5 1/2
           turns from cold end
L4, L5 2.5 mH rf choke (National R-100 or equiv.)
M1 1.5 volt dry cell
M2 6 volt battery
M3 14 mHz crystal
Q1, Q2 GE-1 transistors
R1 180 ohm resistor
R2 1.1 megohm resistor

As before, rather than trying to `draw' the symbol for each component,
I've just inserted the part number. Oh, note the polarities of the
batteries M1 and M2. GND = ground, ANT = antenna, E = emittor, ANT
C = collector, B = base, KEY = well, this is a CW rig....          |

Note that the collector of Q1 `jumps' over the hot end of L2; this is
the only jump. * = a junction of 3 or more leads.

Anyone know if the Alinco DJ-180T is able to be modified like some of
thier other radios by cutting the 2 jumpers ?? I checked on
ftp.std.com but no joy. I was wondering about any potential chinks
in its armor that might shy me away from it. I was hoping for
440 recv capability as well :-)

Subject: DJ-580 stuff
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu

hi, folks,

Here's another question regarding my DJ-580. I take this rig with me on the car, and
I didn't use any mobil antenna. But the reception didn't even hurt for a little bit.
The sound still clear and loud. I wonder if I transmit without using the mobil antenna,
will it be effect by the car? Will the range being cutting off by the car body? ( I did
it when window was closed.)
If the answer is no, then why people want to install the mobil antenna? What I thought
was ham use 2m repeater all the time, so the transmit power is not a big concern. As
long as the power is enough to reach repeater. It doesn't make sense to get a 100W
transmitter or a full length antenna. Am I right?
The other question I have is how to get autopatch access code for public repeater?
Any answer will be appreciated!!!

Subject: FM ATV transceivers... Who makes ?
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu

A few years ago I saw an ad from a small outfit in Texas that was
producing some FM ATV transceivers for 900 and 1200 MHz. They
had a neat 70 MHz IF that went between the tower mounted transceiver
and a control box/mod/demod in the shack. The transceivers were
even synthesized...

I can't remember the name of this outfit. Does anyone know and if
so are they still around ?

I'm also interested in any other sources of FM ATV gear for 1200 MHz...

Chris

   jsteinhu@nyx.cs.du.edu

It's a 2-meter handi-talkie, .5 or 3 watts out, 10 memories, standard splits
only, except for the tenth channel, which can be used as a transmit freq.
Does simplex, +600kHz, -600kHz, and Memory (channel 10). Uses the BP25
battery pack, eats battery packs about every 3 years, weighs half a ton, and
is probably about 10-12 years old. Has memory scan or range/increment scan
capabilities, seems to be pretty immune to intermod.

I have two of them and like them both...

I have a couple of mobile docking stations which I use with a 25 watt amplifier
and an external antenna in the cars, then switch to the ducky for belt/handheld
use.

Cheers,
Carl

I have an FT530, which is replacing my former FT470.

Both radios are very nice, and, yes, the FT530 is smaller, in addition to
having more features.

Frequency-wise, with solder pad 13 removed, it can
receive: 110 - 180, 300 - 500, 800 - 950.

It has am AM detector for aircraft, but the detector must be manually
turned on and off. I think it would have been nicer if Yaesu made
auto-detection for that area.

In addition to this, it has a voltmeter and clock w/ alarm.

Finally, it has TRUE dual in-band receive (vhf+vhf or uhf+uhf), so you
can monitor two repeaters (or two of anything) on the same band.

I'm very happy.

I read somewhere that there were some undocumented features of the MH-29
speaker microphone but can't find it anymore. Does anyone on the net have
any information?
