Doesn't anyone read books any more?
Doesn't anyone go the the library and look for something themselves?
Doesn't anyone look in technical publications for information?

What is it about the internet that seems to breed the following attitude?

"I don't want to expend the effort to
look so can someone else do it for me?"

Along a similar thread, how is it that no one seems to think of the
manufacturers as a source of information?

Are you people really that cheap, lazy or stupid?

Not that the ARRL amateur radio handbook is the be all to end all,
but it is two inches thick for a reason. Likewise, QST is loaded
full of advertisements. (As several others complain about.)

Dialing 411 (In the US) gets you directory assistance. Dialing
1 (area code) 555-1212 gets you directory assistance for any other
area code. Dialing 1 800 555-1212 gets you the free number directory
assistance for those of you too cheap to call someone direct.

Now I know there are a lot of obscure technical aspects to amateur
radio, but geeze people. Get off of your tail ends and look around
a bit before you waste every one elses time.

And before the self appointed guardians of the net jump on me about
the remark of wasting my time, consider this, I don't think there are
any stupid questions. But there sure are a lot of unnecessary ones.

The preceding article "Looking for information" is flame-bait. Maybe I
am thinking wishfully, but it would be nice if we could keep responses
in e-mail rather than watching another silly flame war erupt over
nothing. Thanks...

Hi,
Has anyone here used the MFJ1214 IBM multimode controller? Howe does it
perform? Should I buy it? Can it do SITOR (if I write my own software)?

hi, mitch wa4osr here in mobile, alabama...

i am interested in the Patriot Communications Technology, Inc. model PC-1610
transceiver which is being advertised with full page ads in 73 and cq
magazines...

i faxed patriot for more info and received a nice package back from them...
i received a prompt reply, less than a week...

the rig is getting closer to the all in one box... it has rtty and cw
modems "built in" and a lcd display... you plug in an ibm pc type
keyboard (not supplied) to control the rig plus use the internal
modems... it also supports 300 baud ascii... and, for the first
rig in many years, uses *phasing* techniques to eliminate the unwanted
sideband!!! power output is 75 watts, the rig is 13 in. wide, 12 in.
deep, and 3.5 in high... it weighs 10 pounds...

the complete specs are too much for me to type in for this posting...
but i suggest you write or call patriot if you want additional info...
i would be *very* interested in hearing from anyone who gets one...

the address is:
        Patriot Communications technology, Inc.
        7 Flowerfield M100
        St. James, NY 11780
        516-862-6512
        516-862-6529

also, does anyone know anything about the company???

I had a similar problem with another MFJ keyer. After futzing around with it
awhile I discovered that RF was getting into the unit and causing it to lock
up while sending CW. The RF was getting in via the power cube line. I placed
a ferrite bead on this line and wrapped a couple of turns around the bead.
The bead was placed on the power line end that went into the keyer and that
fixed the problem.

OK, I took the plunge and picked up a new FT-530 while the coupon deal was
still in effect. I've got most of it figured out, but for the life of me,
I can't get the CTCSS Scan feature going. I follow the steps in the manual
('FM'>'Set/0'>'FM'>'T Set/2'), but nothing happens...no confirmation tone,
nothing. Could there be a typo in the manual? I have some suspicions of this,
since the key function summary chart for the 'T Set' button shows 'no
function' for this combination.

Also, would someone summarize the recent traffic regarding known problems with
the 530? So far, I haven't noticed anything unusual other than some slight
noise on 145.13 (sounds kind of like ignition noise, but appears to be of
internal origin).

Happy New Year and 73,
Tom
