Subject: difference between DJ-160 an DJ-162

what is the difference between the Alinco DJ-160 and DJ-162 ?
I know the 162 comes with an alkaline case, but other than that,
was there a major problem with the 160 that they came out with a
revised 162 model ?
does Alinco have a phone number that I can call to get this information ?

My friend (W8APT) has inherited a HEATH SB-102 with
no manual. Would someone E-mail some tune-up info,
nominal and maximum meter readings, and other hints
to help us keep out of trouble on sideband. We sure
don't want to mess this one up or it's back to CW,
not that there is anything wrong with CW. We just

Anyone have any leads on Icom remote control programs?
I know there are lots of stuff out for the Kenwood and Yaesu, but
I don't have one of those, I have the IC-761 and a IC-735.
Oh, and they are NOT compatible.
One very elegant command line routine is included in the F6FBB bbs
software. It is used to allow frequency agile mail forwarding.

Hi,
I have some questions that I think some of you could answer, and I
would appreciate any help you can give me.
My wife's sister just married somebody from Norway and they are
moving there in January. Obviously, it is quite expensive to
talk vi Ma Bell, and so her family asked me to look into the
feasiblility of using shortwave to converse. Being an electrical
engineer, I am quite fascinated with the idea, however I have
no idea how to get started and if it is even workable.
Could someone let me know who feasable this is? I have done
some research into the liscensing aspects, so I am more
interested in the start-up costs, reliability and such.

The TM-731A does support direct frequency entry from the mic keypad,
but only if you add the CTCSS option. In addition, you also perform
a power-up raindance to assign the freq-entry function to a microphone
function key, usually the PF key.
I glanced at my manual on the way home, but must have been a bit foggy
as I didn't understand the power-up sequence instructions. It is moot,
though, if the rig lacks the CTCSS option chip.

Subject: RF getting into keyer enclosure

I recently purchased an MFJ-451 Morse code keyboard, and I am having
problems with RF getting into the keyer box. Even at power levels of
under 5 watts, each time a character is transmitted, the keyer box
locks up and the processor needs to be reset. Admittedly, I don't have
an ideal ground system for my antenna and equiment, and this is certainly
contributing to the problem. If anyone has a similar keyboard and has
suggestions for eliminating this problem, please comment. I will be
installing a better grounding system when time permits.

I found that during my latest move, my mag-mount antenna had been
de-tuned.
I'm looking for suggestions for an antenna tuner for primarily 2m-440
frequency ranges. I also plan on building some antennae for the new
house (I've always liked farming! (antennae farms :-)), and so think
that now may be a good time to invest in a tuner. It would be nice to
have one that would allow me to tune at lower frequencies so that I
don't have to buy another when I begin to work HF.
I am interested in either new or used equipment, but really have no
idea what equipment is good and what isn't.
AES had a Diamond sx-600 covering 1.0-160 / 140-525 MHz.
This sounds ideal, but a bit spendy, esp. when considering the need
for an external 12V power supply.
AES also had the YAESU YS-500 covering 140-525 MHz for about 1/3 the
cost of the above, and it doesn't require the 12V power supply.
Are there other units that I should consider? Anyone have any
preferences?

For the same reason that you don't have transceivers that work from 160m-500MHz
and you don't have antennas that work on the same frequency range, you wont
find tuners that cover that rangeeither - the technology used on 160m
is quite different to that at 500Mhz. People don't have tuners at VHF and
above - probably because of the extra loss in the cable - you get the antenna
right and then have a flat line back to the TX.

Hello Folks.
I need a cure quick:
There are times when my TS940 doesn't properly key the amp...even
though I hear (I think) both the rig & amp's relay close. This
is frustrating.
And yes, let me sneak in another plea...There are times when the
auto-tuner in the rig seems to kick back high SWR; it's almost as
if the relays are being overloaded somehow.
