ftp.geo.brown.edu no longer accepts anon logins.
garfield.catt.ncsu.edu has only a few mods, comparatively.

I've taken all the Kenwood TH-78a mod files I've been able
to find, verified and corrected them, and edited them into
a completely new, readable file. I'm running this by the
authors of the originals (where I could find them). I
challange the rest of you to do the same for your radios.

They work better. Now the performance increases are seldom linear
with price, so at some point you have to say "good enough", but
you generally get what you pay for, and the more expensive radios
do deliver more performance of one kind or another (better selectivity,
better frequency accuracy, more modes, better IMD performance, lower
noise figure, etc, etc). You have to decide what level of performance
you need for a given activity and select from radios offering that
level of performance. For many people, a PRO-2006 and a Sangean 818
are "good enough".

I'm not familiar with the IC-27A. Is this a mobile radio installed in
an automobile or H.T. or installed at home? What is the approximate
frequency of the 'hum'?

Anyone have experience with an ICOM 4020 using the built in controller?
Our club has purchased one and put it on the air. We have not been able to
figure out to get the IDer to ID at some reasonable time limit, such as 5
min. The best we have been able to come up with is an ID every time it
transmits.

Thanks in advance

Subject: need comments on DJ-560T
To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu

I am thinking of buying the Alinco DJ-560T HT now on closeout for $300.
I'd like to get comments from 560 owners and anybody else on what you
like and dislike about this unit.

Also, are there other HTs I should consider ? (I have limited budget).
The DJ-580 in now selling for $380, is the $80 difference worth it ?
what are the differences between 560 and 580 ?

please email replies if possible
thanks in advance

Antenna Specialists carries just what you want in their *police*
catalog. It's a "stealth" antenna for undercover work. They have
models that exactly emulate the appearance of ordinary auto radio
antennas for that vehicle model while actually being high band VHF
antennas, and they still work for AM and FM reception too. They
include the duplexer. Any AS dealer who supplies police agencies
can order you one for your car. Installation can be a little
tricky.

Note, a center of roof mount will still work better than the cowl
mount, but this is better than on-glass or magmount expedients.
