I have an AM transmitter using 304's for the modulator and the final.
I've been told it was built by Phil, KD7EB, who has gone to his reward.
I'm not sure I have all the parts, but I'd like to get it lit up and
running. Any help or references anyone can provide would be helpful.
I'm also looking for the addresses of:
'AM Press Exchange' and 'Electric Radio' magazines, as I was pointed
in theses directions also.
No, the modulation transformer is not for sale,

The new Radio Shack UHF tranceiver for GMRS is on sale
til xmas at $150 ($80 off). Is this a good radio for personal/home
communications or is there a better brand that I should look at?
Also, in general how does a 5 watt UHF compare with a 5 watt CB
in terms of audio quality and range?
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

My Dad is a ham operator in India and has requested for the price of the
FT840 (new and used). As I am totally ignorant in this field, I would like
to request you for the names of some of the reputable dealers (used and new
equipment). I would also like to purchase a NiCad battery pack (FND27). How
much would this cost and where do I buy it from? I stay in Alameda and work
in Emeryville (in the SFO Bay area). Is there someplace that has the catalogues
of all the existing models?

In January 1994, I'll be taking my technician class ham test.
Aside from the fact that I'm overwhelmed with a lot of the 'technical'
aspects, here's my problem.
I live on the bottom-floor of an apartment complex. They do not
permit whatsoever any external antenna/rigs/etc.
Q1: Will it be possible to set up a transceiver in my apartment
and still maintain decent tx and rx of other hams?
(I mean decent as in I can hope to at least TRANSMIT around 30-50
miles, or am I dreaming?)
Q2: I don't wish to spend $5,000 for a super-duper rig. I want something
simple, easy-to-use-and-set-up, and HOPEFULLY under $700. Used equipment
is not out of the question. For my needs, is this also a dream?
Q3: The hand-held transceivers I see on a few folks - these things actually
get any good distance, or are they limited to under 10 miles???
I just can't see a hand-held going over 5 miles. But, then again,
I'm thinking in terms of CB and non-repeater business radio.
Of course I'm a virgin here. Did you have to ask?
