The FT-980 is all solid state, no antenna tuner, microprocessor controlled,
100 watt class. The schematic diagram shows an empty ROM socket labelled
"other bands" or something like that. Perhaps the modification kit is a ROM.
For $20 it can't amount to much.

Mike:

I buy new gell cells from Tower Hobbies in Champaign, ILL for about $23
plus shipping. They are 7 amp hour cells and will run an HT for a long
time. I did pick up some 2.4 amp hour cells at a swap meet. Gel Cells
work great. Only caution is: do not charge at too high a rate. I charge
mine at 500 ma overnight and they last a long time. I charged one with a 4
amp car battery charger and ruined it. It will not hold a charge any more.
also do not deep discharge. I don't yet have a power supply in my shack,
so run my 2M mobile (5,25,50 watts) as well as my HT from my gel cells on a
regular basis.

hello, peter, mitch wa4osr here in moblie, alabama...

the most popular multi mode (cw, rtty, amtor, pactor, packet, etc) units
are the aea pk-232, kantronics kam and kam-plus, and the mfj 1278...
all are excellent units... all are in the us$300 price range...

newer unit is the aea pk-900... an excellent unit for around us$475,
and has ability to add 9600 baud packet modem internally...

older unit but super and super expensive is the aea dsp-2232... has
all of the popular modems built in... including 9600 baud...

any of the above units will give you good performance... there is lots
of shareware software for the pk-232, kam(s), and mfj-1278... aea has
a very nice windows program which supports all of their units...

if you want to go a less expensive route, you should look into the
bmkmulty program which works with a "dumb" modem... that is the
program i am using now and it is excellent...

you can't go wrong with any of the above units... all are excellent and
are from reputable manufacturers with years of experience...

good luck... post us on which unit you decide on...

These are probably the most appropriate groups for this question, so
here goes:

Does anyone have the programming instructions for the Tandy (RS)
CT-351 Cellular phone? In particular, I am looking for the method
to change the security code without having to go to RS. BTW,
it IS my phone. An e-mail or FAX of the instructions would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Bob
