Anyone use these in real-life or training? They show up at hamfests and surplus outlets all the time. At last weekend's hamfest there were 12 volt 6 Ah gell cell batteries for $10 as well as 6 volt cells and large 38 Ah 12 volt batteries at $19. You can carry the smaller ones in small camera bags, or one of these purses on a belt you see. However, I think a better choice is the camcorder and cellular bagphone battery SU-002. This battery is 12 volts at 2.3 Ah and will slip into a jeans hip pocket or a jacket pocket. They're fairly cheap, and there are clip on wall chargers and clip on DC cords widely available for them. I've used both kinds, and the bigger gell batteries get very heavy after carrying them around for a while. It has 10 channels that can be placed into HF frequencies but unfortunatly everything is designed for a fixed configuration. For example the there are 10 output network that are fixed and parts (capacitor) should be changed when you wish to change frequency (changing the crystal) the same is more or less true for the input mixer network . A multisection rotary switch with 10 position select all the 10 different network. Question: Does anybody know the better way to modify this radio and make it working by using a VFO instead of only using the 10 available channels that are standard with the ten xtal that are into it. I have figured out some ways but I am not sure. If somebody already did some modification on this equipment I am asking for hints. I want to move from each channal 100KHZ so that the input and output network should not suffer too much about the modification. Thanks in advance to anybody that will help me. 73 If possible please reply at this addr. robertov@hqlab.ico.olivetti.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Nov 1993 13:52:01 GMT From: nmt.edu!mimbres.cs.unm.edu!moe.ksu.ksu.edu!vixen.cso.uiuc.edu!uwm.edu!linac!att!cbnewse!parnass@network.ucsd.edu Subject: Plectron moved to Imboden, Arkansas To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu To those trying to help find Plectron: Thanks for your assistance. Maybe someone can help me ? I've just purchased used Motorola MX2000 handheld with strange internal software (looks like Motorola Radius or Mobius protocol). I'm looking for a way to reprogram it for 2m HAM radio band access, but have no idea how to access internal ROM Code ? There is slide 12-pad connector in the corner of the device looks like this: o o o o || o o o o || o o o o || only four pads are used for external speaker/mic. I think other pads are for internal ROM interface. If so, where can one find signal assignment to make an interface with PC ? What can this ROM code mean ? Is it simply channel assignment, synthesizer constants and callsign codes or a whole program of internal microcontroller ? What command set the internal controller compatible with ? Does this controller include such sophisticated things like DSP, scrambler, modem, DECT-controller or smth else ? Is it possible to configurate Radio-module for full duplex ? I think there is something like a modem inside to receive and transmit call IDs and to establish radio channel protocol. So is this made by hardware with fixed chip or can be also programmed ? ---- And more-more questions ----- >(;?) Thanx, thanx a lot to all who can help me. And sorry for 'tampering with motorolla proprietary codes', if someone find such activity illegal. The trouble is that in Russia still no copyright laws and more than, our hams can't buy some ham equipment due to wery low average income and economics situation. So we are used to use home-made or second-hand equipment and there is no another way now. And more than our 'tampering' is internal use only and is not for profit. If this information is accessible on some BBS, please let me know where, cose I have no email just only fidonet address (2:463/24.51) and I have no idea how to gate messages from FIDO to FTP and so on. Better I'll call BBS or smth else Data/Voice/Fax directly. Maybe if there is no info for MX2000, but available for other types, for example Radius P210,P320,HTX-II ? It's also very interesting. To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu Don't forget now - hams are licensed to understand, to a certain extent, the radios they use. The license grants hams permission, by law, to build radios capable of transmitting within the ham bands. And, if our radios cause problems in or out of the ham radio spectrum, we should be able to solve the problem. Therefore, any radio hams use to transmit within the ham bands should automagically be accepted units for use in the ham bands. 73, Scott -- =============================================================================== | Scott Ehrlich Internet: wy1z@neu.edu | | Amateur Radio: wy1z AX.25: wy1z@wa1phy.#ema.ma.usa.na | |-----------------------------------------------------------------------------| | Maintainer of the Boston Amateur Radio Club hamradio FTP area on | | the World - world.std.com /pub/hamradio | =============================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: 8 Nov 93 19:03:03 GMT From: amd!amdahl!JUTS!p4sit31!mel30@decwrl.dec.com Subject: worthless to 10m To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu Greetings, I was recently given a Cobra 148 GTL and was hoping someone might give me some hints on how to modify it from the "worthless band", over to 10 meters.
