To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu Rick; I'm a collector of mod files, and I have TX mod files for the Yaesu FT-990 and FT-890, but not a FT-980, which I have never heard of. To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu Among the bargains I found at the Hamfest this weekend in St. Paul MN, was the following Oscilloscope for which I now need manuals etc: 140A Oscilloscope Hewlett Packard I don't know the age of this beast. It is quite heavy. It has the following modules: 1423A Time Base Hewlett Packard 1402A DC 20MCI6CMI Dual Trace Amplifier Hewlett Packard. I don't know if it works at the moment. I still have no power chord or test probes. Then I paid a total of $17.50, so if it never works it wasn't too much of a loss, and if it does work I really have a nice find. Can anyone tell me anything more about this unit? How old would it be? How can I tell what the maximum frequency it can handle is? Am I resigned to paying several times the price of the scope for the test probes? (I need 2 of them.) Does anyone know how I can find a service manual? Other manuals? I have a lot of questions, mostly becuase I just found out about wireless cable. I wasn't really interested in satellite, but I know now that our area has wireless cable, because I've seen the little dishes.(they look like satellite, but they are just a bunch of horizontal metal pieces bent into the shape of a dish) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew about this technology, how much a system is, if you need a descrambler, etc. Thanks! I have NOT tried it! --Leigh/KM6JE. _______________________________________________________________________ TM721A.14 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- KENWOOD TM-721A WIDE BAND MOD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To modify the 721, remove the top & bottom covers. Remove the 2 screws on each side that hold the front panel to the main unit. [You can just loosen the bottom 2 screws, 1 on each side don't actually remove them. Then remove the 2 screws in the top center & bottom center that hold the display to the main unit (all silver screws, not the black ones). Now you can swivel the panel out & down. Look at the back of the display unit. To the left of the Microprocessor near the lithium batttery you will see 3 chip resistors in a pattern like this: H= chip resistor X= blank space --------------------> H X H H add a jumper (or ideally a zero ohm chip resistor where the X is. Hold the F key while turning the radio on. The display will go from: 100 - 200 MHz on VHF 400 - 500 MHz on UHF WARNING!!! Remember to write all your frequencies down before you start because you WILL lose them on both bands once you add the jumper even if you do not reset with the F key. To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu I have a few dozen Plectron brand FM monitor receivers but haven't bought anything from Plectron in 10 years. The Plectron company has been passed around more times than a bottle of cheap whiskey, and I've lost track of them. Anyone know the current phone number or address of Plectron or the company who now owns them? They used to be located in Overton, Nebraska, but there's no telephone listing for Plectron there anymore.
