For those who don't know, this is a type accepted unit which I use on the Public Service bands. It can also be modified for use on the 2m band, which is why I am asking my question in this forum (figuring that there will be folks here experienced with the radios, programming them, modifying them, etc). The programming book leads me to believe that I can enter the CTCSS codes from the keyboard while *not* in the programming mode. Now, I know how to get into the programming mode and enter the codes while there, but not how to enter the CTCSS codes while not in that mode. I've enabled the function but couldn't find the instructions on how to make it work. Can anyone enlighten me? Are there other programmable options available? (I might also be interested in buying a King mobile if anyone out there has a lead on one ;-) Many thanks. Prefer answers by e-mail, but I will check this group for answers if e-mail bounces. To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu I was considering my 2nd HF rig (my first was a HW101). I want it to be solid state (no tuning tubes!) and reasonably simple, but of good quality. I am not looking to purchase right away, but perhaps in the next 6 months or so. The TS-50 looked appealing because it is so small and could go mobile pretty easily. But being small I would guess I am giving up on someting Right? And the idea of HF mobile brings up another question what about mobile HF antennas? Kenwood mentioned an antenna tuner option for "non resonant antennas" (sp?) this would be long wires and verticals and the like no? The Yaseu FT-890 looked simple enough yet not striped. The built in antenna tuner looked nice, but if it can't tune a longwire (or some other apartment antenna) what good is it? :) The computer interface in also tempting (integrate it with a logging program), i am not sure if the TS-50 has one. Any opinions on either radio or your own personal suggestion would be most appriciated! Thanks! If the 7/5 pins don't work, there was an alternet plan for connection. Also make sure the setup is right. I don't have an RS-232 pinout handy so I really can't advise you further. My only complaint with using the RS-232 connection for Super Morse is that it really did not seem to read that well ('course maybe it was poor technique). I've found that Alinco equipment is more prone to intermod than most other equipment (kenwood, icom, yaesu), especially out of band. I like my alinco DR-590, but if it wasn't for the CTCSS option, I wouldn't be able to listen to some of the things in my area without alot of static. Please post if you do send the radio back and it get fixed. My DR-590 is in for repairs now, so I might have them see if there is something more they can do to it to eliminate the intermod I get on 146.73, which I think its caused by my vehicle. My DJ560 is unusable in my vehicle when its running, but my friend's TH77 is DFQ. n1ihu -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ These comments are my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Digital Equipment Corporation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: 28 Oct 93 14:03:33 GMT From: concert!duke!news.duke.edu!ee.ee.duke.edu!jbs@decwrl.dec.com To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu References <2ababg$nqt@triton.unm.edu>, <2akgv7$84u@vulpes.pwd.nsw.gov.au>, <haber-271093161943@fp5.camb.inmet.com> Subject : Re: Alinco DJ580T intermod. Interemodulation interference problem with your DJ-580? Send it back to Alinco in California for a modification. They'll swap out a resistor to decrease the front-end sensitivity [to a reasonable level] and most of your problems will be solved. If it's still under warranty they may fix it for free; otherwise it costs about $35. I got mine back in about 10 days. Works great now - no intermod problems since. -joe 73 de KD4LLV -- You spend the night Like you were spending a dime - Lyle Lovett ------------------------------ End of Ham-Equip Digest V93 #86 ****************************** ******************************
