Subject: Bug reading news from KA9Q To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu I currently have KA9Q NOS version 930507 running on my PC. My NOS is configured to get some newsgroups on an NNTP host server on our network. For example I get the newsgroup MTL.GENERAL (Montreal misc.) My NOS get the news from the NNTP server with no problem. But when I try to telnet on my PC and try to go to the area with "a mtl.general" I receive the message "Mail file is busy, Abort or Retry ?". If I copy the file general.txt that is in the directory \spool\mail\mtl to the directory \spool\mail and I try the command "a general" there is no problem. Is there any way to read with "a mtl.general" without the need to copy the file in \spool\mail ? To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu I'm a newly licensed ham and would like to try packet radio. I think I've narrowed my choices to a Kantronics KPC3 or a MFJ-1974 (?) Not too sure I have the right MFJ model number, it has some appeal for me as it is HF capable (I know it ends in 4 and has the tuner LEDs). Any opinions/thoughts/alternatives would be appreciated. I have an Icom 2-SAT handheld, Kenwood TS-120s HF rig, PC compatible and a Commodore 128 as possible equipment to hook to the TNC. -- **************************************************************** *Bill Lindberg * **au919@yfn.ysu.edu***am257@freenet.hsc.colorado.edu***KC5FKN*** **************************************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 19 Mar 94 15:23:46 GMT From: mnemosyne.cs.du.edu!nyx!nburnett@uunet.uu.net Subject: KPC3 vs MFJ? I have an Icom >2-SAT handheld, Kenwood TS-120s HF rig, PC compatible and a Commodore 128 >as possible equipment to hook to the TNC. Get the MFJ it's as simple as that. I had a KPC-3 and sold it because it is impossible to modify because the hardware in the thing is compatible with exactly nothing. I've since bought an MFJ-1270B (it's just like the 1278 only without any tuning lights on the front). I like it because it can be modified for 9600 operation it will do HF packet, and I can put different EPROMS in it (I currently runa KISS only EPROM). The KPC-3 is good for beginners but I can garuntee (sp?) that you won't be happy with it for very long.
