If so, how accurate is it and how much did it cost (AES is closed now, which they always are when I think about calling them, so I can't ask). Is there something special about the module Kantronics sells, or is it just a TI chip with a markup? Similar question for the 128K RAM expansion. I might point out that it is technically illegal to demodulate some of these signals, but ironically, you can't tell if it is illegal unless you do:-) For the demodulation of SCA FSK, a simple PLL demodulator (like the 565) is probably the easiest way to go. However, many FM receivers have a lot of phase/amplitude distortion in their IF, and/or their demodulators lack good phase/frequency/amplitude response. The result is that often, the low-level SCA subcarriers get clobbered by distortion from the demodulator by lower-frequency components. Multipath distortion also really kills such subcarriers. The FSK chips (such as the MC3356 and MC13055 and other) use essentially an FM demodulator (yes, they all can be used for voice, etc.) followed by a simple data slicer. They use a floating slicing level (an ac-coupled signal input, really...) and a high-speed comparator. The MC3356 is rated to 500 kbaud (i.e. 250 KHz) and the MC13055 is rated to 2 megabaud. The '3356 could probably be pushed to over 1 mbaud and the '13055 has been pushed to 10 mbaud. These chips work well but what would really make them work better is the filtering that you surround them. For simplicity, the 565 is a decent choice. Most '565 data books I have seen have specific examples of SCA demodulators... clint@uugate.aim.utah.edu ka7oei@uugate.wa7slg.ampr.org ------------------------------ Date: 27 Dec 1993 17:20:50 GMT From: swrinde!cs.utexas.edu!howland.reston.ans.net!nctuccca.edu.tw!cccanews!news!news.csie.nctu.edu.tw!jschang@network.ucsd.edu Subject: JVFax trans Problem To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu Hi. this is Jason from Taiwan. Some of my friend meet some problem while using JVFax 6.0. When they transfer via two "notebooks" ,the result is correct. But once they use a desktop pc ,as we use often, the image received become slope about 45 degree. The most strange thing is if using notebook , it is ok. Only using desktop pc will the problem appear. But the parameters setting are all the same? We guess it may be asynchronous transferring, but how does it happened since we using the same setting ???
