I was wondering what would have to be modified (if anything) on this rig to run packet at 9600 baud? Has anyone had any experience doing this? The TNC I have is an MFJ TNC (model 1270? I cant remember...) and I am thinking about getting the 9600 baud external modem for it. Does anyone have any experience with this modem? 73, Rob NV1A rlm@maine.maine.edu ------------------------------ Date: 9 Dec 1993 06:48 EDT From: haven.umd.edu!cs.umd.edu!skates.gsfc.nasa.gov!nssdca.gsfc.nasa.gov!stocker@uunet.uu.net Subject: COMPLETE Documented NOS Wanted To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu In article <755387317snz@g3nrw.demon.co.uk>, Ian@g3nrw.demon.co.uk writes... >In article <1993Dec8.183212.14971@alw.nih.gov> mack@helix.nih.gov writes: > >>Do you know about the book from tthe ARRL (forget what it's called - >>comething like NOSGUIDE). I have to say that I don't think that it was pitched at too low a level. I felt that it stated quite clearly what its purpose was. I have read it through twice now and am still getting information about the NOS environment out of it. It never intended to be a tutorial on TCP/IP nor should it have been there are plenty of those available. I have enjoyed the work and am still enjoying it. I don't think anything else available comes close to providing the information needed to optimize the NOS environment. I'm getting close to the point where I feel that I can really do that. Now if we could really get some fast TCP/IP packet based networks going in the US, I'd be really happy. thanks for your work and your efforts. Subject : Re: 9k6 baud packet - is there any point? The best (and sofar only) use I have had for my 9600 baud modem, is to access the PACSATs! These are orbiting file servers accessable for about 15 min periods many times a day. This is the ultimate in in store and forward delivery, since a message can be delivered ANYWHERE in the world (assumming they have proper equipment at recieving end, or gateway station), in less than a few hours (WORST CASE), 90 min or so more typical. For more information, contact your local AMSAT group. They would be happy to get you started.
