I don't think anyone at ARRL HQ is paying any attention to this. You can send comments to any of the authors (we will see that they are distributed to all authors). The best place to send them is to bob@arasmith.com, since Bob is acting as editor, or to me, since I've been working on the "next revision" for Bob. Another thing you might do (and perhaps the best possible way to submit comments) is to send them to the author of the code you run. He can add comments that apply to the specifics of his code, and submit to the authors conference. Many of my users do exactly this - at the rate of 10 or 20 messages per week - and it has worked out well. ... To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu I was wondering if some Knowledgeable Person on the Net could point me in the right direction. The HT I use with 2400 bps (terrestrial PSK) packet has a very slow squelch, and I have attempted to build a carrier detection circuit so as to run the radio unsquelched. This should cure the problem of loosing the first part of a packet. The circuit I tried is a 567 PLL, centred on 1800 Hz. It works fine...as long as the signals contains no phase jumps. The loop flies out of lock as soon as phase transitions occur, creating spikes on the PLL output. I have played with the loop band with and gain, all to no avail. Also, I tried feeding the PLL output through a low pass filter into a Schmitt trigger, which worked, but the DCD circuit became slower then my squelch... Rather than trying to re-invent the wheel, I was wondering how this is done in commercial PSK packet modems. Any pointers appreciated. To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu Hi all, Could somebody tell me what the latest software version is for the MFJ 1278 TNC. I have V2.3 at the moment, and it has some strange features like not allowing you to have a separate SSID for your PMS. You have to explicitly type MAIL ON whenever you have finished using the system for connections, and you cannot connect while the PMS is ON. I'm sure there must be a later version that is better than this. To: ham-digital@ucsd.edu We want to use Motorola S-Record format for an avionics computer we are building for the Government. In order to use S-Records I must be able to point to a standard somewhere that documents that format. Ideally, if S-Records were an IEEE standard, that would be great. Failing that, being able to specify an "Industry Standard" publication (much like VME is documented) would be fine. Can anyone help me, or point me to someone that knows where the definitive standard document for S-Records can be found? All pointers and hints appreciated! Someone on the internet pointed me to the Motorola BBS as a place where I might find the specification for the S-Records but I couldn't seem to find it anywhere. I use a Diamond F-22A (two 7/8 wave elements in a white fiberglass shell). Claimed 6.7 dB gain, 10.5 feet tall, 200 watts, 112 mph winds. Cost about $100. Wish I'd bought a dual band model though. I'm guessing, but I don't think NT likes anything that wants to diddle the hardware directly (ie. the serial port). NT wants everything to use the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) to do nasty things like that. 73 de Al VE7DPM allenm@wizard.ucs.sfu.ca ------------------------------ End of Ham-Digital Digest V93 #114 ****************************** ******************************
