Courier HST & HST Dual Standard Modem Owners: ________________________________________________________________________ US Robotics has a new firmware release that will correct the following problems in the above modems: 1) When receiving calls... Inability of some modems to connect to your modem at 2400-bps. 2) When calling another MNP modem... Buffer Dump when two of the same characters are entered together (ie. typing two 'T's in a row (TT) causes a bunch of text data to be sent to the other system). Does your modem need the fix? To find out, call US Robotics at 1-800-DIAL-USR (1-800-342-5877) and ask for tech. support. They will need the following information from you: 1) Modem Model (HST or DUAL STANDARD) 2) Serial Number (on bottom of modem) 3) Invoice Date (date you purchased your modem) 4) Chip Information... to view the chip information, enter the command 'ATI7' and write down the dates for the following: SUPERVISOR Date: ______________ DSP Date: ______________ They will send you two chips and installation instructions. One chip is a 'Supervisor' chip that controls modem operation. The other chip is a 'Data Pump' that controls the data transmission/reception. It's fairly easy to install these chips ...just be sure to have a ground strap connecting your wrist to ground before you touch the chips or the modem internal parts. Like all semiconductors, they are sensitive to even small amounts of static electricity. Once you've installed the new chips, they will request that you ship the old chips back to them. We performed this upgrade at Indiana On-Line and it has cured the connect problems experienced by 2400-bps callers. The new chips were supplied by US Robotics at NO CHARGE. Leave me a message on my BBS if you need any additional information. John Taylor Sysop, Indiana On-Line (tm) BBS: (812) 332-RBBS
