Gujin

Gujin is a PC boot loader which can analyze your filesystems. It finds the Linux kernel images available, as well as other bootable partitions (for *BSD, MS-DOS, Windows, etc.), and displays a graphical menu for selecting which system to boot. Because it understands the structure of Linux kernel images, Gujin does not need LILO and can even load very big kernels. There is no need to execute anything after making a new kernel: just copy the kernel image file into the "/boot" directory. Gujin is written almost entirely in C with GCC, and it fully executes in real mode to be as compatible as possible.

MapSCSI

mapscsi is a Linux SCSI device mapping tool which solves the problem of SCSI device names being allocated in the order of probing. The problem is that when an additional device is added and has a lower host, channel, or ID than existing devices, the other devices will all be shuffled along on the next reboot (i.e. /dev/sdb becomes /dev/sdc, etc.). mapscsi solves this by creating symbolic links to Linux SCSI devices after scanning all SCSI devices, using information probed from the devices and a set of mapping rules containing device templates to dynamically create link names. mapscsi can fetch Fibre Channel world wide names and loop IDs when using Qlogic HBAs with the qla2x00 driver. mapscsi is a simple alternative to devfs, and provides the added ability of including drive information such as vendor/product/Fibre channel address details, PCI location, and serial numbers in device link names. mapscsi is particularily useful in Fibre Channel SAN environments.

The modutils package contains utilities that are intended to make a Linux modular kernel manageable for all users, administrators, and distribution maintainers.

OnDir

OnDir automatically executes scripts in directories when you traverse them at the command line. It will execute the scripts .onenter and .onleave when entering and when leaving a directory, respectively. In addition, it also executes these scripts in any intervening directories. This is useful for things like automatically changing your umask when moving into your ~/public_html directory or adding a project specific path to your PATH.

OpenSSH

This is a Unix/Linux port of OpenBSD's excellent OpenSSH. OpenSSH is a full implementation of the SSH1 protocol and a 99% implementation of the SSH 2 protocol, including sftp client and server support.

rpm-get

rpm-get is a simple clone of apt-get for RPM. This little application will let you download, install, upgrade, or remove RPM packages/sources as well as upgrade the entire distribution with ease.

scdbackup

scdbackup is a simplified CD backup program for Linux. It can back up large amounts of data on one or more CDs, with no special tools needed for reading the backup. It supports ISO9660 filesystems and afio archives. Its special features are that it can use multiple CDs (breaking the 650 MB limit) and do incremental backups. An information script on each CD tells where a certain file may be found, a collision test with renaming avoids aborting of mkisofs, and there is multiuser safety by use of a locking protocol.

SSH

SSH (Secure Shell) is a program to log into another computer over a network, to execute commands in a remote machine, and to move files from one machine to another. It provides strong authentication and secure communications over insecure channels. It is intended as a replacement for rlogin, rsh, rcp, and rdist.

SystemConfigurator

System Configurator is a configuration API for Linux. It will setup hardware, networking, and bootstrapping in a unified way. It is designed to work with SystemImager and the upcoming System Installation Suite.

SystemImager

SystemImager automates the installation of Linux to masses of similar machines. Software distribution, configuration, and operating system updates are made easy, including updates from one Linux release to another. It can also be used for content distribution on Web servers. It is most useful in environments with large numbers of identical machines. Some typical environments include Internet server farms, high performance clusters, computer labs, and corporate desktop environments where all workstations have the same basic hardware configuration.

SystemInstaller

System Installer (a component of the System Installation Suite) is a tool to install a system with any Linux distribution. It builds Linux operating system images that can be propogated to remote machines using SystemImager and SystemConfigurator.

Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix. Using any browser that supports tables and forms, you can setup user accounts, internet services, DNS, file sharing and so on.
