![]() | The lake side of the street was lined with large, very old trees which were far enough apart to allow a wonderful view of the lake for the whole neighborhood. A grassy hill and gentle slope covered with purple wildflowers was between the sidewalk and the water. |

![]() | Jessica was standing between her two favorite trees. She persuaded her father one summer evening to build her a treehouse in one of them so she could stay outside with her friends after dark. Then she heard a sound on the lake and got scared, so the treehouse was taken down the next day. |

This discovery brought her mother across the street to chase Jessica down out of the tree, since the young girl was fifteen feet off the ground in her best outfit. |
