VIRUS

Don't be alarmed, this is just a simple plan of action to follow when using Agent.

Get a good virus scanner, there are so many out there, and most are good.

Norton has never let me down, but then neither has F-Prot.

Use your scanner! I know lots of folks who have a virus scanner, but never use it! If this is you, get Norton, and let it do the scanning in the background.

Now, the way it should be done is straight forward enough:

1) All files downloaded into one directory.

2) When your session is over, fire up the scanner and point it at that directory.

3) Most scanners can scan one large directory in about 45 seconds, so the old excuse of not enough time is not going to work.

4) View any .bat files in Notepad, use file/open in notepad to find them. You cannot get a virus from viewing a text file in Notepad! If you see anything that says deltree, get rid of that file!

5) Most unzipping programs can associate a virus scanner with the zipping program, follow the directions and scan zip files before using them.

6) Face the facts, most virus infections come from your friends and their floppy disks, not the Internet.

Recommended scanners:

Norton Antivirus

Mcaffee Virus scan

F-Prot <--- I like this one.

PCillin <--- Very fast.

Be careful, and don't let this scare you away, watching for virus is part of computing, always has been, always will be.
