Index

This dialog box displays an index of all the sections in a message.

Subject/Author/Date

These read-only fields show you the subject, author, and date of the message.

Index

The index lists each section of the message, including a short description and type. Below the list box is read-only detailed information about the highlighted section.

Save

Press this button to save the selected section to a file. This will bring up the Save Message Section dialog box.

Launch

Press this button to launch the selected section using the associated application. You can launch any non-header section, including the body of the message.

Delete File

If the selected section has been saved to a file, press this button to delete the file.

View

Press this button to scroll the Message pane to the selected section and close this dialog box.

Mark for retrieval

This will mark all highlighted articles for later retrieval. You can mark as many articles in a single group as you like using the left mouse click and control key to pick articles that are interspersed in a group.

Once article are marked, you can then use the Online menu to "Get marked message bodies".

NOTE***
You have some control over the order articles are retrieved by Agent, scan your groups, mark the most important articles first, then go to Online, "Get marked message bodies". Next, mark the second most important articles and repeat.

If you mark a bunch of articles in many groups, then choose "Get marked message bodies" from the online menu, Agent will start with the first group, get those marked bodies, then go to the next group in order, no matter what order you wanted them in.

If your Internet connection is not very stable, this method of getting articles is probably best for you, with each disconnect, all you need to do is go online, then choose "Get marked message bodies", with no further action required.

If you choose "save binary attachments" instead of marking, and get taken offline, you will need to manually go back and remark all those articles again, a time consuming process. There is no work around for this as of yet.

Watch thread

This is used for watching a thread or set of articles. Depending on how you set Agent up, this will either automatically save the files as they become available, or simple alert you of new articles.

Ignore thread

Same as above except this will let you ignore the thread entirely. Useful to get rid of recurring threads that are annoying.

Keep

This will allow you to keep an article on your drive as long as you want, you should get the message body, as once the body is gone from the server, it is gone forever. Useful for those articles you want to save, but don't know exactly where to put them.

Delete

Simple, deletes whatever is highlighted.

Delete Body

Simple, will delete only the saved body of the article you highlight. Frees up disk space, but not overly useful if you follow all of my advice on how to setup Agent.

Copy to Folder

You can setup folders for storing articles, and this will allow you to seamlessly copy the highlighted article to whatever folder you choose.
Note that this will leave the original copy in the group it was found in, so double the hard drive space is needed for this.

Move to Folder

Same as above, except that this will move the file or article to the desired folder. The article will no longer be visible in the group it was found in.

Word wrap

Will wrap the contents of the active window for easier reading.

Fixed pitch font

This will change the active font in the active window, some articles will be easier to read with this turned on.

Show all header fields

This will show all unseen header fields. Mostly useful for seeing who the true poster of an article was, if someone posts and has their software set to a fake e mail address, this will show the actual path the message took to get to you. A bit of detective work will reveal a great deal of info about the poster, at the very least where the post originated from. An e mail to that systems root will get you more info, this is handy for problem posts.

Show raw message

Agent will show the message in it's raw format, not always useful unless the poster sent in mime format, and it was unrecognized by Agent.

Language

Useful if you read from non English groups, you must have the appropriate files for Agent to use this feature.

Usenet Filters

See the section specifically on this topic.

Add author to address book

Very nice feature, will pull the posters address and add it to your address book.

Mark read

This will mark all highlighted articles in the highlighted group as read, useful if you want to make sure not to re-read an article, makes reading large groups a bit easier.

Mark all read

This will mark all articles in the highlighted group as read, useful if you want to see all new articles in a different color, makes reading large groups a bit easier.

Mark unread

This will mark a read message as unread, useful if you want to keep an article longer, but not long enough to use the keep function.

Mark all unread

This will mark all read messages as unread, useful if you want to keep an article longer, but not long enough to use the keep function.

Join sections

To use this feature, highlight the articles that need joining, then click on this. This feature is of limited value, as Agent is smart enough to automatically join sections, this will only be useful if a poster somehow goofed and mismarked a set of posts.

You will notice that this is almost exactly the same as the message menu, remember, all of these commands are available in both places, right mouse click and message menu.
