Print

Will print the current selection, will work on almost all messages.

Page setup

This allows fine tuning of the page setup for printing.

Margins should be left alone unless your printer fumbles with the defaults.

Print raw (unformatted) should be unchecked.

Header fields to include:

Check no fields.

Page breaks:
Choose between messages.

Print setup, you should be able to leave this alone, as Agent uses windows printer settings that should already be working.

Save all attachments

Use this to save all highlighted attachments.

Launch attachments

Use this to launch programs or files. Note that Agent will use windows file associations to launch non executable programs (like .gif images).

****Special note****

You should always virus scan any file you are not familiar with, and all files that end in these extensions:

.exe
.bat
.com

For more info see the section on virus.

Delete saved attachments

This will delete all saved attachments from within Agent, and from the directory they were originally saved to! Use this only if you have items saved to a permanent location on your drive.

This is what Agents help file says:

Use this command to delete all saved attachments in all selected messages. You can also delete saved attachments using the Attachments dialog box.
Important Note: When you delete the attachment, Agent still retains the body of the message. So, for example, you might see the Usenet message with attachments icon next to the header, even though the attachment has been deleted. To minimize the chances of this happening, it is better to launch attachments from the message (using Launch Attachment) and decide whether or not you want to keep it before saving it to file.

My advice is to make sure you really want to delete something before using this command. There are many areas in Agent that will allow modification of this basic command within specific parameters, if you are not familiar with all of them, you could cause yourself to re-download something you already saved!

Save message as

This will open a dialogue box that will allow you to save a file, message or selected text in any format you want, and into any directory you want.

USES:

1) If you monitor alt.stories. you could use this feature to save stories to text file, while retaining the original filename.

2) You can save encoded messages that Agent could not decode for decoding with an external program like Wincode. Simply give the file a .uue extension. Make sure to save all parts of the file.

Importing messages

Use this dialog box to import messages from another program into Agent.

Look in

Select the location of the import file.

File Name

Enter the name of the text file to import.

Files of Type

Select the type of files you want to import from the list.

Replace existing entries that match new names

Check this box to have Agent automatically replace existing names in the address book with matching names in the import file.

File according to inbound message filters

Select this option and Agent will use the email filters defined in the Filing tab of the Inbound Email dialog box to determine the folders in which to file the imported messages. This option is dim if you have not yet opened the Inbound Email dialog box (Options menu) and designated a default inbound folder.

Put all messages in folder

Select this option and Agent will file all imported messages in the folder selected in the list on the right.

If a message contains an X-Folder field...

Check this box and Agent will file imported messages in the folders specified by the messages' X-Folder field, overriding the other settings on this dialog box.

Automatically create folders

Check this box and Agent will create the folders specified by the messages' X-Folder fields as needed. When this box is unchecked, imported messages with an X-Folder field specifying a folder that doesn't exist are filed according to the radio buttons above.

Address import export

This will allow you to import from other programs e mail address, and to export address to other programs.

Newsrc

This will allow you to import or export a newsrc file (list of newsgroups generated by a newsreader program).

Not terribly useful, but it can save a bit of time if you are using the same server, but are just switching to Agent or another newsreader.

Insert text file

A neat feature, allows you to import a insert a text file into a new post or e mail without having to open Notepad to copy the file.

USES:

1) When e mailing many folks, with the same info, you could pre- generate a text file then use this feature to copy it to all your e mails.

2) You could setup a directory for only these types of files, and have them at the ready with very little hunting.

Compact databases

Very good feature. Agent can consume vast amounts of hard drive space, if left to the default settings. This will compress Agents internal databases and save lots of disk space.
See also Disk space for more info.

Exit

Leaves the program.
