Get new headers in subscribed groups

This tells Agent to go on line, connect to your server, and get new messages in all your subscribed groups.

Use this to get new headers in the groups you are subscribed to.

Get new headers in selected groups

This tells Agent to go on line, connect to your server and get new headers in only the groups you have highlighted.

Use this when you only want to get new headers in a few of the groups you subscribe to, not all of them.

Get marked message bodies

This tells Agent to go on line and get all the bodies for articles you previously marked. This is a global action, covering all groups.

Get selected message bodies

This allows you to let Agent go on line and get only those articles you have highlighted, not all marked bodies as above. This is a selective action, affecting only the articles you have presently highlighted.

Sample headers from selected groups

This allows you to highlight groups (subscribed or not) and have Agent get a sampling of message headers. Use this to get a feel for a group, without downloading all the headers, which can be time consuming.

Get all headers in selected groups

This will get every available header in the groups you have highlighted. Use this if you think you may have missed an article, or if there are missing parts to a post you see.

Note:

1) On some groups, the header list can be in the tens of thousands, use this option sparingly.

2) Agent may have trouble with larger groups, as a rule of thumb you should have this as the only running task in Agent.

3) This can be time consuming, and it is not good to cancel the action once started, you may wind up corrupting the database, which would mean you would have to do it again.

Catch up with selected groups

This simply tells Agent to go on line and get the highest header number, so the next time you get new headers it will start with that number.

Useful if you have many group you read only on occasion, you can ignore all headers you have already read by highlighting the group, choosing mark all headers as read, then using catch up.

Post Usenet and e mail messages

This tells Agent to go on line and post all messages you have already composed, but marked as "send later".

Use this if you have many items to send, compose them all, then choose this function, Agent will send them all, thus making the operation faster for you. A side benefit of doing it this way is that it will only take one actual connection to your server, instead of many if all messages are sent one at a time. More of a saving for your provider than you, but nice overall.

Check for new e mail

This tells Agent to go on line, connect to your e mail server, and get all new e mail.

Get new groups

This tells Agent to go on line and get only new groups from the server, not all groups. This is a good way to see whats new, without looking at all groups. You can use the "show new groups" option to see only these groups, neat huh?

Refresh groups list

Use this to tell Agent to go on line and get a complete list of groups from the server, this can take a while.

Useful if you have deleted many groups recently.

Stop all tasks

As it implies, it will stop all on line tasks. Useful for when you want to change the order of a download, or if you are also on the web downloading, you should stop all tasks in Agent, finish the web download, then go back to Agent and continue.

Note***

1) If you stop all tasks, you lose any unsaved files. Watch the meter at the bottom of the program, wait until that file is done before stopping all tasks.

2) If you used the right mouse "save all attachments" action, you will have to go back and redo those actions, another reason to use "mark message bodies" instead of "save all attachments" action.

3) You will lose all ordering you may have set up, so use this with a bit of caution.

Online

Simply tells Agent to go online (connect with the server).
