NOW ARE WE READY TO BEGIN?

Now are we ready to begin?

Take your agent zip file, and put it into a temp directory, make sure the directory is empty. I suggest you go to filemanager and make a new directory, you do this by opening file manager, clicking on "file" then clicking on make new directory, type in the path and name, i.e., C:\temp1 and then hit enter, or click on OK. Now, use your unzipper to unzip the files into THIS temp directory. I use winzip, and to open zip files, I double click on the file in filemanager, winzip pops up, I choose extract, and choose the temp directory as the place to extract to, and winzip does the rest. Winzip is available on my web page for win95, it is available elsewhere in a 16bit version. Once the files are unzipped, run the install program for it, and accept the default settings (unless this conflicts with your directory structure).

There are presently two versions of agent, Free agent, the free version, and agent99 which is up to version 99c, this is the full featured commercial version. I like Agent enough to say this, the commercial version is well worth the upgrade price, and if you can afford to start with that version, the command structure and internal code are so much improved that the $40.00 cost is negligible. The e mail capabilities alone make it worth the cost!

Agent should set itself up automatically, including a program group. If a group is not made, follow the directions below for getting a group set up.

For windows 3.x do this:

1) Make an icon for Agent in Program Manager. To do this, choose New
from the File menu and select the Program Item option. Fill in
the Program Item Properties dialog box as shown in the example
   below:
      Description: Free Agent
      Command Line: c:\agent\agent.exe
      Working Directory: c:\agent

For win95 users, do this:

1) In explorer, or your file manager, highlight the agent.exe file.
2) Right click on this file, and choose "create shortcut".
3) Drag this shortcut to your desktop, once there, you can place it anywhere you like.

Agent is now set-up, and ready to roll! For troubleshooting, or problems, see the troubleshooting section. We will now assume agent is on your disk, all set-up, and ready for the next step, going on line with it! Both Free agent and Agent99 run well on all windows platforms, and are very fast programs, limited only by your connection speed and PC.

NOTE*****
These instructions are for the commercial version of Agent only, for help with the free version, see my agent help file at:
