2. Shareware

The program CARLTON.EXE comprising the Card Game 'Carlton' and
this documentation file is distributed as 'Shareware'. It is a
fully functioning program. You may evaluate the program for a
period of 30 days, after which continued use of the program
requires registration with the author.

I don't ask much for the registration fee, and will be pleased
to send you an updated version of the program when you register
provided you supply a disk and cover my costs.

3. Introduction

The Carlton Card Game is a two pack patience game described by
David Pelter in his book 'The Penguin Book of Patience'. The
game 'Carlton' is one of a family of related games with slightly
varying rules and layouts. The principle variants described in
the book have all been implemented in this program.

The program is written using Turbo Pascal for Windows from
Borland (an excellent language product which I can thoroughly
recommend).

4. Installation

4.1 Requirements

An IBM PC AT or compatible. Microsoft Windows V3+. A mouse.

The program has been tested running under Microsoft Windows V3.0
and V3.1 using hardware varying from an 8Mhz Tandon AT to an IBM
386DX Portable on a range of display adaptors.

4.2 Install

You should receive this software as a single self extracting
archive file using the LZH format from Yoshi. (CARL_20.EXE)

To install the software from DOS

a) Copy the file CARL_20.EXE to the Drive and Directory you wish
   to use for the installation.

b) Execute the file CARL_20.EXE.

c) You will be prompted with a Copyright screen and the option
to proceed to install the program files.

d) The program will then de-archive the files

CARLTON.EXE - the Windows Executable file.
CARLTON.HLP - the Windows Help file
   CARLTON.TXT - this documentation file.

You may include the CARLTON.EXE file in Windows Program Manager
or double click on its filename in File Manager to launch the
program.

Once you have run the program and selected from the user
definable options a further file

CARLTON.INI

will be found in the Directory containing your Windows Files.
Should you wish to remove 'Carlton' from your system at a future
date then this file may be deleted.

Unless registered with the author the program will remind you
periodically that the 'Good Guys' register their Shareware
Programs.

5. Registration

If you like this program and intend to continue using it then
you may register your ownership with the author and receive your
personal registration number. This will stop the program
nagging you to register.

Registration costs five pounds sterling (or equivalent in
readily convertible currency). If in addition you send me a disk
with return packaging and postage for your location, I will
provide the most up to date version of the program and copies
of other Shareware programs I have written for you to try.

I may be contacted by Post, Telephone and FAX as indicated in
the HELP, ABOUT option in the game.

Please make cheques (drawable on a UK Bank please) payable to
Mr. P.B.Cook.

Send registrations to

Mr. P.B. Cook,
( CARLTON )
7 Deaf Hill Terrace,
Trimdon Station,
County Durham, UK
TS29 6BZ

See the Help file for full details on Registration.
